Hi All,

It’s almost HERE! Tomorrow is the pub date for Wish You Were Here. It’s the novel I didn’t plan to write… born from my own experience of lockdown for 15 months during Covid, because of asthma. I wrote the novel because I needed to remind myself of who I was when my world turned upside down, and sorting out the lessons of 2020 was therapeutic for me. I didn’t think I was going to publish it…until a couple writer friends read it and said that it was so validating for them after a year of isolation and unease. I thought: “What if this could be therapeutic for other people, too?” So I hope you enjoy my story about a woman whose life is upended by the pandemic - and who learns a lot about herself along the way, as all of us did. COVID isn’t going away anytime soon (hello, Omicron!) so we all have to learn how to start moving about the world as safely as we can. May this novel be a blueprint for that journey, and may it bring both comfort and hope.

XO,
Jodi

Diana O’Toole is perfectly on track. She will be married by thirty, done having kids by thirty-five, and move out to the New York City suburbs, all while climbing the professional ladder in the cutthroat art auction world. She’s an associate specialist at Sotheby’s now, but her boss has hinted at a promotion if she can close a deal with a high-profile client. She’s not engaged just yet, but she knows her boyfriend, Finn, a surgical resident, is about to propose on their romantic getaway to the Galapagos—days before her thirtieth birthday. Right on time.

But then a virus that felt worlds away has appeared in the city, and on the eve of their departure, Finn breaks the news: It’s all hands on deck at the hospital. He has to stay behind. You should still go, he assures her, since it would be a shame for all of their nonrefundable trip to go to waste. And so, reluctantly, she goes.

Almost immediately, Diana’s dream vacation goes awry. Her luggage is lost, the Wi-Fi is nearly nonexistent, and the hotel they’d booked is shut down due to the pandemic. In fact, the whole island is now under quarantine, and she is stranded until the borders reopen. Completely isolated, she must venture beyond her comfort zone. Slowly, she carves out a connection with a local family when a teenager with a secret opens up to Diana, despite her father’s suspicion of outsiders.

In the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin’s theory of natural selection was formed, Diana finds herself examining her relationships, her choices, and herself—and wondering if when she goes home, she too will have evolved into someone completely different.

The NEW paperback edition is now available for purchase! It includes a Q&A with Jodi and Jojo Moyes, plus an excerpt from Wish You Were Here!

Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She's on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: prepare for a crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband, but a man she last saw fifteen years ago: Wyatt Armstrong.

Dawn, miraculously, survives the crash, but so do all the doubts that have suddenly been raised. She has led a good life. Back in Boston, there is her husband, Brian, her beloved daughter, and her work as a death doula, where she helps ease the transition between life and death for patients in hospice.

But somewhere in Egypt is Wyatt Armstrong, who works as an archaeologist unearthing ancient burial sites, a job she once studied for, but was forced to abandon when life suddenly intervened. And now, when it seems that fate is offering her second chances, she is not as sure of the choice she once made.

Good Morning America.
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult tackles a not-so-fictitious ‘what if.’ What if your life was going well and then a virus came and messed everything up? For Diana O'Toole, a Sotheby's art specialist aspiring to be married by 30 to her boyfriend Finn, that's what happened. When Finn stays to fight the outbreak at the hospital, Diana takes their planned vacation alone and gets stuck in the Galapagos Islands, home of Darwin's theories, where she changes her worldview forever.”

CNN
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
The bestselling author (Small Great Things) returns with the story of a young art auction consultant who finds herself alone and quarantined in the Galapagos Islands after her surgical resident boyfriend cancels the trip to deal with the pandemic back in New York. From there, she enters new relationships and faces a not always pleasant journey of self-discovery.”

Philadelphia Magazine
“Jodi Picoult’s Wish You Were Here, a beautifully written novel about a young girl who’s got it all until a global pandemic strikes and she reevaluates her life. Need I say more?”
