Hanging On!
“We look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! All this comes from the God …” 2 Corinthians 5:17 MSG
Have you ever seen that some Oak trees like to hang on to its leaves. I remember a tree at one of my residences, in which several branches had leaves on it, and they never dropped. Through the blasts of wintery winds and snow, the tree seemed to cling to its remaining leaves, not wanting to let them go. Throughout the winter we often see a few brown oak leaves fluttering down to lie on top of the snow. Every snow storm seems to bring a few more down. When spring rains and thunderstorms arrive, those old leaves blow like crazy, but many of them still don’t fall off. I would look up that tree in the summer … and they were still there.
This tree has made me think often about the old leaves we hang onto in our lives. You know we cling to dead things not wanting to let them go. And when it comes to Jesus wanting to bring newness in my life … I at times catch myself holding onto what I know and to what is comfortable. Sometimes that might include lack of forgiveness for some hurt in my past … or, yes I will admit, sometimes it’s just because I am stubborn.
The results of letting go of our old self and allowing God to make us into a new person brings a sense of joy, peace, and love. I love that Jesus is creating new responses here at Waterville UMC to further His Kingdom. We are experiencing God’s presence in many way and seeing answers to prayer. God has great plans for us and for the community around us. I pray we are not held back from entering God’s great plans for us by clinging onto something old that we may need to release.
Let’s let our colors shine! Know that you are loved and appreciated.

On Sunday, September 25 we had "Sundae Sunday"
|
|
The Outreach Committee invites you to participate with us at "Fall-o-ween Jesus" Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 22 from 2 – 4 PM.
The local children are invited to come to our church and trick or treat from car to car and then come in to see our new building and have refreshments of doughnuts and cider. We need YOUR help by parking outside, open your truck, sit nearby and hand out candy, stickers, apples, or whatever is appropriate. For more fun dress up in costumes (no scary ones) and/or decorate your trunk. PLEASE sign up at church so we know how many will participate. This event will be rain or shine, if inclement weather we will move indoors (the people, not the cars!) Come celebrate Jesus in a fun, unique way to share His love with our neighbors.

Facts, Figures, FYI’s
Now that we have “Transitioned” to our new building, we are looking forward to the potential opportunities we have to spread the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the community and the surrounding area. No matter what, God is in charge and He will lead us through this and toward the future and His will for us.
As members of WUMC we have all committed both as individuals and as a congregation to support His work through our time, our talents, our gifts, our service and our witness.
October 30, 2022, will be the kick off for our 2023 General Fund Stewardship Campaign, which supports our operational budget / expenses for the coming year. The budgeting process and campaign planning has already begun and we ask for your prayers in support of this all-important annual endeavor.
It is also a time for each of us to prayerfully consider not only our financial commitment, but also what part you may play in support of God’s work. Let us all truly focus on looking at our world through God’s eyes, seeking the answer to the question: What does God want to do through me?
Quarterly Statements: Your 3rd Quarter Giving Statements will be emailed the week of October 3rd. For those who receive hardcopies, they will be mailed during that week as well.
Please contact Tom Wiggins, financialsec@watervilleumc.org if you have any questions about anything related to financial giving, the Stewardship Campaign or the Capital Fund.
