A Secret I’ve Been Dying to Tell for a Year… My Art, the Silver Screen & Anne Hathaway!
About a year ago, I got a call from a set designer for an upcoming movie starring Anne Hathaway. The designer knew my work, had fallen in love with four of my paintings and wanted to know if they could be incorporated into the set design. Uh…are you kidding me? Is this for real? Anne Hathaway??? My answer of course was a resounding YES!!!

Shooting was to start soon, so Gwen and I quickly discussed details, researched art in movies, negotiated compensation for the use of the images and signed the agreement. It's so exciting! This Amazon Prime Video production, “The Idea of You,” is a romantic comedy based on the 2017 novel by Robinne Lee. It focuses on a 40-year-old woman named Sophie (played by Hathaway) who is either a gallery owner or museum curator… her exact job is fuzzy to me, but the main point is she will be surrounded by art (and that’s where my paintings come in – I assume hanging on the walls behind/around her).

The drama starts when her husband divorces her to be with a younger woman. When he drops out of parental responsibilities, Sophie ends up taking their 15-year-old daughter to a huge concert featuring a famous boy band. Electricity and chemistry ensue when Sophie meets the 24-year-old lead singer (played by Nicholas Galitzine), and they end up having a steamy, passionate love affair.

Online, we found only a few production pics (none with my art), and no one knows exactly when it will be released. It will certainly air on Amazon Prime, but it might have a theatrical release too. Everyone’s best guess on timing is late 2023 or early 2024. (Photo Source).
I was going to wait to share this extraordinary news until I knew FOR SURE that my art would be visible because they are under no obligation to actually use it, but I couldn’t wait any longer. In addition to my three paintings above, they also selected "Canyon de Chelly" (24x36) that is shown on the right. Anne Hathaway stars in so many of our favorite films. My favorite is “The Devil Wears Prada,” and Gwen’s is the science fiction blockbuster “Interstellar” (not surprising since she worked for NASA), which also stars Matthew McConaughey, Michael Caine, John Lithgow and Matt Damon.

So we’re all in this together! For who knows how long, we'll wait for the release and wonder if we’ll see one, two, three or all FOUR of my paintings in the background with Sophie. This is so cool! I’m beyond thrilled, and my paintings in a movie also means I’ll get IMDb credits!
My Gallery’s 30th Anniversary, Art Stroll & Michael Hearne's Big Barn Dance
It's September again, and that means one BIG thing: the 21st annual Big Barn Dance! For three fun-filled days and evenings, this anticipated music festival brings the very best of Americana, Country, Folk and Bluegrass music to northern New Mexico. An impressive lineup of singer-songwriter musicians from all over the country (and beyond) converge in Kit Carson Park along with thousands of fans to listen, dance, catch up with friends over a cold beer and basically have the best time ever.
The day before the event, Michael holds his Art Stroll, placing musicians at select galleries to play music while introducing flocks of people to Taos art and artists. It's really so kind and generous of him to do that each year – truly a labor of love that gives so much to our community. All year, I wanted to do something to celebrate my gallery's 30th anniversary (1993 - 2023), so I decided to combine my party with the Art Stroll. Double the fun! We rented a huge tent, organized catering, made snacks, shopped for beverages and ice and took in hundreds of 2023 calendars to give away since the year is almost over.

Folks Moving through Gallery to Celebration in Back
Wow! Over the three hours, I'm pretty confident that more than 300 people came through. Some stayed the whole time, and some moved on to hear a bit of music at other galleries. Pat Byrne from Ireland was our musician, playing his original songs beautifully. I've heard from so many people – they LOVED his soulful lyrics and heartfelt guitar melodies, which moved from soft and emotional to face-paced songs. After the event, we hung out. He's sincerely a nice, humble and talented guy who has a winning career ahead of him.

Since it's my gallery's 30th this year, I've been looking back at old paintings, newsletters, articles, clippings, etc. I decided to pick three favorite photos from past Big Barn Dances and Art Strolls (below). Such warm, wonderful memories. Thank you Michael Hearne!

Adventures Up & Down Coastal Maine
After my show in Santa Fe during Spanish Market, I was tired. I had painted for months getting ready for it and knew I'd be bushed, so we decided to take a post-show adventure to coastal Maine. Neither of us had been there, so we looked at a map, made reservations and off we went! Oh it was glorious – we flew into Portland and drove up to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, stopping and staying along the way in quaint seaside villages.
I'm won't say a lot about the trip – I'd rather show a few of my favorite photos. But I will say the lobster and seafood were incredible, and it was so relaxing and refreshing to soak in all that green and blue... the rocky shores in particular were mesmerizing. I'll give a shout out to the Drift Oceanside Inn (pictured above), where we stayed for two nights (Camden). Those cute little cabins were RIGHT on the water, and it was by far my favorite place.
