EPHS families,

I want to provide some information on a couple topics that are circulating in our school and greater community. I’ll begin by stating that our school is safe and we have no immediate concerns. Reports of threatening language from a student have been relayed to EPHS and EP Police by students. Due to data privacy, we cannot share specifics around situations like this, yet I want to assure you that appropriate steps have been taken. Though this involved a small amount of students, we know information spreads through a high school community. Additionally, Saturday night, a staff member reported a threat on social media that was quickly determined to be from a school outside our area. With both of these events and the recent tragedy in Michigan, students have brought forth questions. I fully empathize with their desire to know more information so that they can feel confident in their safety; please know that is our top priority, too. Because of all this, I want to share with you how your students can support a safe learning environment at EPHS:

  • If your student ever has information that might help maintain our safe environment, tell them to report that information to any principal, dean, or School Resource Officer. EPHS Administration and EP Police should be families’ first point of contact for reports as sharing sensitive or unconfirmed information can work against our priority of a safe community.
  • If your child asks or mentions something about anything that could disrupt a safe school, ask them if they have reported the information to EPHS Administration or EP Police.
  • Please know that all reports are taken seriously. We may not be able to share the progress or outcomes of our investigations due to Data Privacy Laws.

Please be in touch with any questions. As always, I’m grateful for your partnership.
