Our belief at Sport for Life is simple: physical literacy and quality sport for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background.


In this edition, we celebrate some of the diverse perspectives and experiences that enrich our projects, products, and services, as well as people and programs championing equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in Canada and worldwide. 

Sport for Life making inroads in France: Equipping French sports clubs with physical literacy


In recent years, Sport for Life has collaborated with a dedicated team in France to further the growth of physical literacy—a budding concept in the country. 


In this interview, we delve into the insights of Sandrine Rabaud, recently appointed Senior Technical and Educational Advisor for the French Handisport Federation and formerly with the French Federation of Sports Clubs. Before working for the French Ministry of Sport, Rabaud already had a wealth of experience in high-level sport as a teacher and an inline skating coach. What she shared with us is a testament to the changes and progress that are taking place in the country in terms of physical literacy.

Pillar to physical literacy and inclusion: Ongoing education and development for practitioners


Many programs have implemented physical literacy (PL) but often overlook the experiences of persons with diverse abilities due to societal, cultural, and political influences. This can lead to exclusion and marginalization from physical activities. Researchers at Memorial University have addressed this challenge by developing a PL and inclusion framework. Today, we share one of 10 evidence-based best practices from their work:


Idealization: Practitioners must be afforded initial and ongoing opportunities for education, learning, and professional development, aligning with the conceptual, philosophical and operational foundations of physical literacy.

Pacific FC champions gender equity with Women and Girls in Sport match


Victoria's Pacific FC, a Canadian Premier League team, has continued to take steps in promoting gender equity in sports, hosting their second Women & Girls in Sport Match in August.


The match drew an impressive crowd of 3,400 fans, reflecting the growing significance of creating spaces where young girls can hear about the accomplishments of female athletes and leaders across various sports.

Waterwerks Kayak Club's resilience and post-pandemic revival


While many clubs continue to reset and find their footing post-pandemic, there is a wealth of experience, advice and support from the larger community of grassroots sports organizations to tap into when it comes to re-envisioning clubs and programs. One of these clubs is Waterwerks Kayak Club, a recipient of a Sport for Life COVID-19 micro-grant, working to rebuild its club with a foundation of new, trained coaches and volunteers.

Overcoming COVID-19 challenges: Annie Lau's story for International Week of the Deaf


With last week being International Week of the Deaf, we each have the opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the deaf and hard-of-hearing community while celebrating their remarkable achievements.



In this spirit, we share the inspiring journey of Annie Lau, Manager of Information Technology at Sport for Life. Her unwavering dedication to sports, particularly volleyball, has transformed her life and is a powerful reminder of the incredible impact that inclusive and adapted sport can have.

Celebration of an exceptional collaboration: Pierre Morin and Sport for Life


After years of leadership within Réseau Accès Participation (RAP), our partner and friend, Pierre Morin, has recently embarked on a new adventure as he stepped down from his role as Director of Operations, marking the beginning of his retirement journey. 


As we start the next chapter of our partnership with RAP and work with Pierre’s translation company, Resonance Strategies, we want to express our gratitude for his contributions and commitment to our work with Francophone communities. We also want to acknowledge that Pierre has found a great successor in Mariane Parent, who continues to innovate, grow, and bring enthusiasm and vision to our endeavours, ensuring the legacy he built continues to thrive.
