VIRTUAL MOCK INTERVIEW SESSIONS:
A REMOTE SUCCESS STORY
On February 24th and March 17th, Patriots Path hosted virtual mock interview sessions – and both were a huge success! With our biggest turn out ever, there were over 32 attendees at February's mock interview session,16 of which were employers interested in hiring and supporting the veteran community.

Going remote in light of COVID-19 has been a challenge for most, including Patriots Path, which has become known for our exceptional in-person workshops, but we would be remiss not to celebrate the extended reach of our virtual programs. Thank you to those who have joined us remotely, and if you haven't attended one of our virtual sessions yet, please do! You won't regret it.
Join us for our next Patriots Path-original event!

"The Mental Journey of Transitioning From Military Service"
By Jonathan Nedik
As a servicemember in the middle of transitioning from active duty to the civilian sector, I find myself not only facing the stresses of trying to figure out the “why” behind what I want to do as a civilian, but also the emotional and mental stresses of a major life change.

When I was working on my 10 and 30 second elevator pitches for Patriots Path, a career coaching and job search training program I recently participated in, I had no idea what to say, or where to start. If I were only talking to myself, I would say: “I am stressed about what the next step in my life will be, whether I will still be able to support my family, and I worry about how well my military experience translates into corporate America. Many times, I feel overwhelmed, and I am ultimately worried about failing my family.” If I said any of this to a recruiter, they would likely smile uncomfortably, say it was nice to meet me, and quickly walk away. It certainly is not an elevator pitch to land a job, I know, but the reality is that many of us transitioning from military service face these emotions and stresses every day.
JANENE MCGEE CHAMPION FOR CHANGE AWARD
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY
In spring 2020, Mecklenburg County, the state of North Carolina, and the broader veteran community lost a fellow veteran and passionate advocate, Janene McGee.

"Janene was such an amazing woman and Veteran advocate here in the region. We all felt her passing as an incredible loss to our community," said Noël McCall, Patriots Path executive director.
In addition to leading the county Veteran Services Office team, Janene also championed several collaboratives addressing homelessness and suicide prevention. In honor of Janene’s incomparable spirit and advocacy for the military-connected community, Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families has created a scholarship to support professional development opportunities for AmericaServes providers.

Apply for the Champion for Change Award by March 31, 2021.

TheLadders.com: If You Don't Know How to Answer These 3 Questions You Won't Land a Second Interview

“In 100 characters or less, why are you the best candidate for the job?” This question came up recently on a job application my friend was completing.

It forces you to distill what you bring to the table. But how can you possibly describe your unique skills, abilities, and passion with all the nuance in a simple 100 characters or less?

You wouldn’t dare waste your precious characters on words like “team player,” “good communicator” or “organized.” Why? Because in business, those qualities are table stakes.
