Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE) to award three $1,200 scholarships

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (February 3, 2021) — Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Kim A. Barton, through the Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE), is proud to offer Florida college and university students the opportunity to apply for one of three $1,200 scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded as part of the association’s ongoing commitment to education in Florida. 

"I am so proud to be able to work with my fellow Supervisors of Elections to offer this opportunity to deserving students each year," Barton said, noting that Alachua County students have won scholarships in four of the last six years.

As you know, one key step to ensuring the business voice is heard is to become informed on the issues that matter to our community and to vote. The City of Gainesville Regular Election will be Tuesday, March 16 and the deadline to register to vote in this election is Tuesday, February 16.
 
City Commission seats for District 1 and At Large will be on the ballot. To register to vote in this election, visit the Supervisor of Elections website, www.votealachua.com.

The Education Foundation offering over $200,000 in college scholarships
Deadline to apply: February 16

The Senior Scholarships program is open to high school seniors in the Alachua County Public Schools system. Students must complete one application to be considered for the more than 50 scholarships which they may be eligible.

Scholarships range from $1,000 to $60,000 for eligible seniors who meet the scholarships’ criteria, and last year, The Education Foundation awarded about $750,000 in scholarships including Senior and Take Stock in Children scholarships.

Dance Marathon to hold second annual Miracles in Color 5K February 13
Saturday, February 13, 7 a.m.
Flavet Field at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Dance Marathon at the University of Florida is hosting its second annual Miracles in Color 5K race on February 13 benefiting UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital, Gainesville’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

The race is a chance to brighten up participants’ Saturday morning while bringing light into the lives of the children at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. The 5K begins at Flavet Field and runs through the University of Florida campus. ​Each 30-minute registration shift will be limited to 100 participants to keep capacities within University of Florida and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. Participants are invited to attend with up to three other members of their QuaranTeam and will be instructed to maintain social distancing. Runners will go through multiple color stations throughout the course and a final color station at the finish line. Should runners opt to stay clean, event staff will provide them with the proper marker.

Participants can register for the event on the organization’s website for $25 at https://events.dancemarathon.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=4383​. ​All money raised for the Miracles in Color 5K will go directly to UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. ​The registration closes Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 11:59 p.m. After that point, no more online registrations will be accepted nor will registration be allowed at the event due to capacity limits. All participants will receive a ​Miracles in Color 5K white shirt with registration.
