Note from Ellen

Dear Friends,

This week’s Games People Play is Solitaire, a game I learned to play from some camp counselors many years ago. I spent hours playing it, loving when I could clear all the cards. It was a good way to pass the time…for a while anyway. And of course, I played on my own.

As you know, being alone and being lonely are not the same thing. Learning to spend time alone can be a good and healthy thing. Loneliness is not. And it is pervasive and persistent. We the church are the body of Christ—together. How can we offer hope and community to a world that is filled with people who are lonely? Our texts for Sunday morning and for our Selah service come from Psalm 68 and John 14. I hope you’ll read, reflect, and pray about how we might be part of God’s healing of a lonely world.

Grace and peace,

Ellen

VBS Success!

Almost one hundred children and dozens of volunteers and First Kids staff learned about Jesus and the events of Holy Week through our Jerusalem Marketplace Vacation Bible School last week.

Rabbi Jonathan led lessons in Synagogue school, concluding the week with teaching the children to play dreidel. Our artisans shared their gifts teaching us to make clay pots, woven cloths, harps, and even how to sew a coin bag. Ms. Jacquie inspired us with song and sign language as we learned songs to express our daily lessons. The Jerusalem playground and Jerusalem Café offered places for rest and re-energizing.

Thank you to each person who helped to bring this week to life.

Mark your calendars – VBS Olympics: A Celebration of God’s People, June 10-13, 2024.
