September 2023 | Issue 25

To everyone who has ever struggled with mental illness or problematic substance use, we wish you all a Happy National Recovery Day 2023!

It is worth noting that at the exact same time that marijuana use among young people is at an all-time high, nearly half of all young adults are dealing with an addictive or emotional disorder.

That’s not a coincidence because the human brain continues to develop until the mid-20s, making teens and young adults particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of the drug.

Every Brain Matters supports the positive message that there is hope for anyone struggling with mental illness or addiction. With sobriety and support, recovery is possible.

It’s not easy, but it is absolutely worth it.

You can help spread awareness by sharing this article everywhere and with everyone you know. To stay even better informed, join our movement and subscribe to our channel.

Spotlight - Marijuana Industry Victims Seeking Justice

The Every Brain Matters community advocates for accountability and justice for people harmed by industrialized marijuana products. We held the first historic imperative discussion about the pathways to filing lawsuits against the marijuana industry and about the burgeoning class action lawsuits against it. Please view the video below to learn how lawyers seek witnesses to testify in developing lawsuits and plaintiffs to lead class action lawsuits.

Please note that to be a plaintiff in one of the developing class action lawsuits, you must be a person in a legal-pot state who is no longer using and has a medical diagnosis of cannabis use disorder and/or cannabis-induced psychosis within the last two years from the use of legal recreational marijuana. Witnesses can have a variety of criteria.

Please complete the surveys below if you want to be considered to be a witness or a plaintiff.

Hope for Recovery

The Every Brain Matters Community offers support meetings for families affected by marijuana use.

Weekly Climbers Meeting - Join us every Wednesday at 7 pm CST.

A professional counselor leads this weekly online support group for families affected by a loved one's marijuana use. We allow open discussions in order to share ideas, experiences, strengths, and hope. We ask for a donation to compensate for the professional expertise that is provided, but this is not a requirement to attend.

Advocacy In Action

Responding to a directive from President Joe Biden, the Federal Health and Human Services Department has recommended easing restrictions on marijuana by changing its drug classification. If the HHS recommendation is followed, marijuana would be a “Schedule III” drug instead of its current “Schedule I” status. Pro-cannabis supporters see that possibility as a major victory because it would be a huge step that would pave the way for expanded legalization. Opponents who don’t want more drugs in their communities are worried about what would come next for the same reason.

Let’s take a closer look at what to expect if marijuana is rescheduled, why you should care, and what you can do about it. Please click the image below to read our full article. We ask you to share this article with your friends, families, and coalitions. Thank you.

The Every Brain Matters community collaborates nationwide to advocate for drug prevention and recovery efforts by doing simple tasks that only take a few minutes. We encourage you to do each task listed below to support public health and safety. Thank you.

I object to Dr. Ziva Cooper, Doug Berman, Ashely Brooks-Russell, and Lary Work being on the NASEM committee—Dr. Ziva Cooper is funded by the marijuana industry, as reported in the LA Times. The marijuana industry funds Doug Berman via the Kock Foundation through the OSU center, and Ashley Brooks-Russell and Larry Work are tied to Colorado's marijuana industry. We need committee members who represent families because they are paying a huge price in this new era of industrialized marijuana. State-sanctioned marijuana products attract young people with cool designs and products that look like typical food. Flavorful marijuana vapes and edibles mask the foul taste and hide use from parents, educators, and employees. American families are devastated by the effects of super-concentrated marijuana products designed to cause the disease of addiction and severe mental and physical illnesses like cannabis-induced psychosis and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Please reject these committee members and pick representatives from organizations like Every Brain Matters, the International Academy On The Science and Impact of Cannabis, and the Parent Action Network.

Thank you

*Keep Psychedelics Out of California!

Please do this today:

Call Newsom's office to urge a VETO of both SB 58 and AB 374

1. dial: 916-445-2841

2. Then press 1, 6, and 3 and leave a message

3. say veto both SB 58 and veto AB 374

SB 58 will decriminalize psychedelic drugs - we have enough drugs on our streets, creating more homeless and people with substance use disorders.

AB 374 will allow marijuana to be sold in places that serve food and have music (at this moment, they will not serve alcohol, but it will be right next door or be approved next year). This will cause MORE impaired drivers on our roads since they will encourage the use of marijuana.

Here is the bill if you want to read it - it is AGAINST what people were told with Prop 64 (the proposition that legalized marijuana use in our society in 2016

*Please join us in protecting children from being harmed by cannabis products that look like candy. Let's message Governor Newsom that this is unacceptable, and it is time for him to act and protect our kids.

Please care. Please share.
