Three Carl Junction Seniors Receive Golden Lion Award
The Golden Lion program selects a local Senior who is nominated by a faculty or community member for acts of service, generosity, or positive community impact. Each month, one student is selected for this recognition and receives a $1000 scholarship to Missouri Southern State University.

This school year, three Carl Junction Seniors have received the honor: Jillian Kennedy, Kailan Peters, and Alex Baker.

Holiday Giving Wrap-Up
This holiday season, the giving district-wide was truly heart-warming. Here is a wrap-up of some of the wonderful ways our big-hearted Bulldogs and community helped others.
Primary K-1:
  • Students in Mrs. Valdois' Kindergarten class made Christmas ornaments and gifted them to local nursing homes and hospitals.
Primary 2-3:
  • Hosted a non-perishable food drive, and pet food drive. Donations went to local charitable organizations including Bright Futures and animal shelters.
Intermediate:
  • Food drive for Christmas baskets to be gifted to school district families in need. 2500 items were collected and shared with 20 families.
  • Mrs. Plumlee's class (Int. SpEd) created decorated gift sacks and sold them, raising over $100 for CJ Shop with a Cop.
Junior High:
  • Toy drive: JH Peer Leadership organized a toy drive for the KOAM Toy Box. Junior High students and their families donated over 200 toys.
High School:
  • FFA raised money to donate to the Carl Junction Police Department's Shop with a Cop event and donated hams to Carl Junction's Helping Hands ministry.
  • CJHS Spanish National Honor Society donated stockings full of personal care items and thank you notes to area first-responders and essential workers.
Senior earns award for short film
CJHS Senior Logan Earll recently won 1st place in the Comedy Category at the Missouri Southern State University Media Showcase with this production of the timeless battle of Coke vs. Pepsi, with a Star Wars-inspired twish. Earll and fellow CJHS Senior, Sam Kim, co-star in the video. Earll is in the Advanced TV & Audio Production class at Franklin Tech and in the Video Productions class at CJHS.

Spend a couple of minutes enjoying this funny and fantastic quality student production.
Free breakfast & lunch for all students!
All students may receive free breakfast and lunch through the remainder of the school year and summer school (June 30, 2021) thanks to the US Department of Agriculture. Check out the January menus here.
Debate starts their virtual season
Right before Christmas break, the Speech and Debate team participated in their first virtual individual event tournament. The team uploaded prepared videos and then waited for their results. In this first tournament, two first-year debaters, Alivia Bradshaw and Kaelyn Feagan were successful and advanced to the semi-finals in Original Oratory.

Inclement Weather
Winter weather is upon us. When deciding whether to close schools, several factors are taken into consideration, including the amount of snowfall, condition of residential and thoroughfare roads, temperature, and the ability to clear parking lots and sidewalks. We work closely with the weather service and our team members personally travel the roads before making a final decision.

If school is canceled or the arrival/dismissal time is affected, an announcement will be made through our communication system using phone, text, and email; postings on social media and cjr1.org; and on our local television stations. To assure that you will receive the notification, verify that your parent information is up to date in Parent Portal.
Bright Futures Update
In December Bright Futures Carl Junction was passing along a lot of love from donations to the program. Students, families, and the community really stepped up to help others. Here are just a few examples of the many ways Bright Futures was able to bless our students because of your donations.
