We are deeply saddened to share the news that our beloved African elephant Maggie peacefully passed away on Tuesday underneath her favorite shady oak tree and near her best loved mudholes in her habitat at our ARK 2000 sanctuary. Elephant friend Lulu was at her side.
The 41-year-old elephant spent nearly 14 years at the sanctuary and was loved by the other elephants, everyone at PAWS, and all those who knew her or followed her compelling story. PAWS is honored to have had the opportunity to provide Maggie with the best care possible by our dedicated caregiver and veterinary staff, and the chance to experience a more natural, enriched life. Our hearts ache at the loss of this magnificent elephant whom we all loved so much.
We thank everyone who cared so much about Maggie, from Alaska to California and beyond.
