ALI Faculty Board Member, Professor Forest Reinhardt (HBS) chaired this year’s Deep Dive on Climate Change. ALI hosted the virtual 2021 event featuring 10 speakers from across the University and country who discussed the effects of climate change from a wide range of perspectives of science, economics, policy, military and government leadership, the arts, and many more!

Carla Dirlikov Canales (2021) is a co-sponsor and moderator of the Future of Cultural Diplomacy seminar series exploring how to harness culture to advance foreign policy objectives. The inaugural event with the Harvard Kennedy School will take place April 9, 2021 and is open to the public.

Julie Allen (2020) says the majority of Americans and business organizations support the Equality Act and urges the U.S Senate to do the same. In her opinion piece for WBUR, Ms. Allen discusses the lack of federal legislation to protect LGBTQ Americans against discrimination.

Sally Bagshaw (2020) is working with Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods, AARP, and several universities to provide affordable living for hundreds of people who want to remain in Seattle. Ms. Bagshaw highlights the value of bringing people together across generations, across cultures, and with different lived experiences in her recent article for AgeWise King County.

Rehmah Kasule (2020) says governments, business, and civil society need to take seriously the crisis facing women around the world amidst this pandemic. In an article for The East African, she mentions the need to increase representation and participation of women in violence prevention and decision-making—from the grassroots up to national policy levelsto ensure equity.

Lisa Macpherson (2020) says local journalism has an essential role in mitigating misinformation. Ms. Macpherson’s paper Addressing Information Pollution with a "Superfund for the Internet" offers a creative, evidence-based policy proposal to combat misinformation. Her paper was selected as a finalist in a white paper series published by the Wikimedia Initiative on Intermediaries and Information at the Yale Information Society Project.

Mark Sterling (2014) and Jim Lytle (2020) have been appointed to the inaugural interdisciplinary Advisory Board at Harvard Law School's Petrie-Flom Center. They will provide support and advice to current programs and assist in the development of new initiatives to support the Center’s work on health care delivery and medical technology.

Eduardo Carvalho (2013) helped lead efforts in building a nine-story sustainable building in Recife, Brazil that will become the new ABA Global Citizenship and Education Innovation Center.

ALI Faculty Executive Committee Member Howard Koh (SPH/HKS) says recent coronavirus outbreaks in New England are likely caused by carelessness, not new variants. Featured in The Boston Globe, Dr. Koh discourages dropping our guards and social distancing measures at a critical time as vaccinations are becoming more available.

ALI Founding Chair & Director Rosabeth Moss Kanter (HBS) says the only way to solve complex problems is to look more broadly, open up horizons, and lead with purpose and meaning. As she explains in a recent Forbes article, these steps are key to motivating people.

ALI Faculty Board Member Jerold Kayden (GSD) convened a brand-new Deep Dive on Resilient Cities in early April. Prof. Kayden organized the 2021 event featuring 15 speakers from the University, and world to explore key challenges and opportunities to creating resilient, sustainable cities for the future.
