81-year-old disabled Air Force Veteran, David McCormick and wife Patricia, in Loveland are each coping with health issues on a limited income. Due to new property management, their rent increased from $600 to $1,000 a month in September. If that wasn’t enough, their kitchen stove stopped working shortly before Christmas.
They scheduled a service call for an appliance technician to come repair the stove and was told it would cost more to repair than replace. At that point, Patricia reached out to Qualified Listeners from a referral from Neighbor-to-Neighbor in Loveland asking if we could help find resources for a used kitchen stove. She didn’t want anything fancy, just one that would work. We gave her numerous places to call only to find she couldn’t afford even a used one. She was ready to sell the family piano hoping to get enough money to buy a used stove.
She had no stove, getting low on food, and no money to buy her grandchildren Christmas gifts. Qualified Listeners sent $100 worth of vouchers to ARC Thrift Stores for the grandchildren’s Christmas gifts and reached out to Stillwater Ranch in Loveland, one of our key resources, for food gift cards. Stillwater delivered the gift cards in time for Christmas and shortly after the first of the year purchased a new kitchen stove for the McCormick’s including delivery and hookup costs. What a great start to the new year for this family!
