Updates and Resources for January 2022.
The BIA would first like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and a successful 2022.
With ongoing COVID -19 restrictions in place, here are some of the business resources available now or coming soon. Please reach out if you have questions.
Small Business Relief Grant:
The provincial government announced an Ontario COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant for small businesses that are subject to closure under modified Step Two of Roadmap to Reopen beginning January 5, 2022. It will provide eligible small businesses with a one-time grant payment of $10,000.
 
Eligible businesses that qualified for the Ontario Small Business Support Grant and that are subject to closure under modified Step Two of Roadmap to Reopen will be pre-screened to verify eligibility and will not need to apply to the new program. Newly established and newly eligible small businesses will need to apply once the application portal opens in the coming weeks. Read eligibility requirements here
Ontario Business Costs Rebate Program:
Program will open on January 18. This program will provide eligible businesses that are required to close or reduce capacity with rebate payments for up to 100 per cent of the property tax and energy costs they incur while subject to public health measures. Announcement Here
Commercial and Industrial Property Improvement Grant Program
The Commercial and Industrial Property Improvement Grant Program is now open. For more information and to apply:

 
Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2022, or when funds are expended.
Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA):
The federal government announced this week that the deadline for repayment and partial forgiveness of the CEBA has been extended to December 2023. Find full details here.
Retail Accelerator Program Applications continue:
The first round of applications will be accepted until March 31, 2022, or when funds are expended, whichever comes first. $10,000 micro-grant available to help businesses develop and expand.
Canada Student Summer Jobs Program
Applications are open and being accepted until January 25 for the Canada Student Jobs Program - Learn More and Apply
De-escalation Training Sessions for Businesses:
The City of Toronto is continuing to offer De-Escalation Training Sessions for Street-Front Retailers. The sessions are geared to managers or employees who interact with the general public regularly and would like to learn strategies and skills for communicating with individuals who may be street involved or displaying agitated behaviours. Training is facilitated by the Downtown Yonge BIA and a mental health educator. Registration is free.
 
Digital Mainstreet Events and Courses - Ongoing
Digital Mainstreet continues to offer courses on Social Media presence, digital transformation and building an online store. Find all the events and courses here.
