Village Officials Meet with State Senator Dan McConchie

State Senator Dan McConchie received a warm welcome from Village Manager Greg Jackson and other Village officials during a morning tour of Long Grove’s historic district July 28. Village Manager Jackson arranged the visit with Senator McConchie which included introductions to local business owners and several brief stops at downtown restaurants and shops.
Village Appointees Take Oath of Office
Denise Rosenquist, Director of Operations, was sworn in as Deputy Clerk by Village President Bill Jacob.
Kent Tinucci was sworn in as new Village Trustee by Village President Bill Jacob.
Denise Rosenquist, Director of Operations and newly appointed Deputy Clerk, and Kent Tinucci, newly appointed Trustee, were both sworn into office by Village President Bill Jacob during the July 27 Board meeting, which was held in-person and broadcast live on Zoom. The Village Board approved the appointment of Rosenquist to her new role of overseeing Village operations in May and more recently was appointed as Deputy Clerk. Trustee Tinucci was appointed earlier this month to fulfill the remaining two years of the four-year term previously held by former Trustee Chuck Nora. The Village welcomes both officials in their new roles!
North Krueger Road Detour Update
North Krueger Road has been reopened to traffic between Route 22 and Gilmer Road with the recent paving of the final layer of asphalt. Additional roadwork will require daily lane closures, and will include shoulder installation, landscape restoration and pavement marking. Please note: motorists should continue to expect periodic delays and be aware of new traffic configurations, flaggers, construction workers and equipment - and refrain from cell phone use when traveling through the work zone. IGA with Village of Mundelein for Interim Planning Services
The Village has entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Village of Mundelein for planning services on an interim basis. Services provided by Mundelein will include completing plans and legal notices for zoning and building permits, and managing public requests for planning services. A formal search is currently underway for a new Community Development Director or Village Planner, now that former Village Planner Jim Hogue has officially retired. Funding Approved to Preserve Lands in Route 53 Corridor
The Village has granted $10,000 from the approved budget for the not-for-profit Midwest Sustainability Group, to support community activities that promote the protection of sensitive landscapes along the Route 53 corridor. A task force is currently reviewing various ways to manage the corridor lands, which were to be used for a proposed tollway joining Route 53 with Route 120. Midwest Sustainability is one of the leading organizations in the coalition that defeated the tollway proposal and has received funding from the Village in past years to support the preservation of corridor lands.
Save the Date: Open Burn and Permits Class in September
The Long Grove Fire Protection District will host a class on conducting safe and proper open burns Saturday, September 18 at 10 a.m. at the Long Grove Fire Protection District Station. The class will cover the two-step process of applying for an open burn permit with the Village and obtaining permission for an open burn within the Fire Protection District. Sixth-Annual Downtown Vintage Days This Weekend
Long Grove Vintage Days, hosted by the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association, is returning for a sixth year for a two-day street market for all things vintage, antique, reclaimed, repurposed, upcycled and handmade! This coming Saturday, August 7 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 8 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., this hometown event will feature vendors and summertime fun, including pony rides, nine holes of miniature golf set up at various merchants, food and beverages, and live music on several stages. The Long Grove Historical Society will host the inauguration of the first Dog Mayor of Long Grove Saturday at 3:30 p.m., as well as a Penny Carnival on Sunday at noon. There is no admission for entry or parking, and all attendees are encouraged to stay and explore the newly renovated historic downtown area. For more information, click here.
Wading Birds Nature Talk at Reed Turner Woodland
After a year of delivering programs over Zoom, the Long Grove Park District (LGPD) is offering in-person nature talks once again at the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center, starting with a talk on Herons, Cranes and Egrets Monday, August 16 at 1 p.m. Learn how to tell these tall, magnificent wading birds apart that visit Lake County, and how they uniquely adapted to the environment. The program is open for anyone 18 years of age and up, and the fee is $5 to attend. Pre-register by calling the LGPD at 847-438-4743 or email syoung@lgparks.org.
