About Face at Loading Dock Gallery
in Lowell, Massachusetts, through August 29
Stephen Beccia, Metamorphic Mouse, 2021, acrylic on canvas.
The Loading Dock Gallery presents About Face through August 29. Featuring the works of Richard Cross and Stephen Beccia, the show explores contemporary figurative art, inspired by the Cubism and Pop movements of the 20th century with the nuances, icons and mediums of the 21st. Strong influences of Basquiat and Picasso appear in Beccia’s work in geometric shapes as well as a look at the surreal and familiar. He explains he’s “searching for a world of design and color that does not yet exist.” And in Cross’s work, recognizable faces like Audrey Hepburn, Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe are commemorated in new ways, “transforming familiar images with intense color and agitated line.” The Loading Dock Gallery is located at 122 Western Avenue, Lowell, Massachusetts. The gallery is open Wednesday–Saturday, 12–5:30 p.m. and on Sundays until 4 p.m. On August 7, there will be a “Meet the Artists” event from 3–5 p.m. For more information, visit theloadingdockgallery.com.

River Arts exhibits the paintings of James Rauchman in Self: Reflection through October 29 in the Folley Hall Gallery. The selection of paintings and self-portraits show the artist's experiences “with being an outsider—a gay man and an artist—and reflect on identity within the context of a society not quite able (or ready) to accept him.” Rauchman’s paintings realistically capture the artist’s identity and experience while blending the physical and abstract; external and internal. River Arts, a non-profit community arts organization, is located at 74 Pleasant Street, Morrisville, Vermont. Their hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.– 2 p.m. For more information, visit riverartsvt.org.
