Job Opening - LIC BID Operations and Retail Support Manager


LICP seeks an LIC BID Operations and Retail Support Manager to support the work of the BID Department and increase our merchant engagement. This position will focus on assisting with day to day BID operations, such as helping manage the supplemental services contractors, with an additional focus on retail merchant assistance and engagement. This position will interact regularly with business owners, property owners, city agencies and other stakeholders, both in the field and via phone and virtual meetings. Details

MoMA PS1 Warm Up - Fridays in August


Warm Up returns to MoMA PS1 this summer with electronic music and DJ sets from 5 to 10 p.m., every Friday in August. LIC residents get in free - just bring proof of residency in ZIP codes 11101 and 11109 to receive one complimentary ticket per event on a first-come, first-served basis.

Legends of LIC - "A Building of Well Burnt Clay"

When Studio V unveiled ‘The Green House’ apartment block on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, they drew the public’s attention to their innovative use of terra-cotta panels across the building’s exterior. Studio founder Jay Valgra issued a statement linking the 12-story building’s gallery, retail space, and apartments to Long Island City’s storied past: “We're not interested in generic design. Architecture must reinvent a site's history and context."


His words were a clear salute to the building’s neighbor a few blocks north on Vernon Boulevard, the Terra Cotta Building, a New York City Designated Landmark, and former office to the legendary New York Architectural Terra Cotta Works. Read more here

DSNY: All Food-Related Businesses Must Containerize Waste - Starting August 1


Starting August 1 - The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is implementing a new rule to send rats packing. All food-related businesses in NYC must use rigid containers with secure lids when setting out trash for collection. Per recent setout rules, businesses that place waste on the curb have two options: Place waste at the curb one hour before closing or after 8:00 p.m. DSNY is hosting a series of one-hour information sessions through August 28. August 19 and 20 - Ofrenda Fest is seeking talented artists and vendors who are interested in exhibiting and selling their artwork at their Summer Art Saloon. The event will be held at the Queens Council on the Arts' Art Space, located at 5-11 47th Ave Long Island City 11101, on Saturday, August 19 and 20 from 1-9 p.m. All mediums are welcome, but only 12x12 size pieces will be accepted. Vendor tables are available for $50 per day. Details
