Stewardship Season Begins but Never Ends!
At worship last Sunday, I was honored to announce the start of the new pledge campaign, the fruits of which will fund the work of FPC in 2023.
It struck me that though we call it a “season,” true stewardship is never-ending. This is evident at FPC in many ways as we respond to local and global needs that come up throughout the year. Take the quick response to a plea for much needed supplies for the victims of flooding in Kentucky just a couple of months ago. Or consider the time the youth group and other members spent to refresh the landscaping at Fairmount Elementary to provide a warm welcome for students at the start of their new school year. And let’s not forget the snacks we collect for Fairmount students throughout the year! These are just a few examples of FPC’s stewardship in action.
At the same time, there is tremendous value in setting aside time each year in the fall, our traditional harvest season, to reflect on the past and look to the future.
First, we pause to give thanks to God for his grace, provisions, and abundant blessings of the past year. We each have our own list of how we have seen God at work in the family of FPC and in our own lives. We see time and again how God turns our meager offerings of time, talent, and financial resources into so much more than we could have imagined. The paradox never fails: the more we give the more we receive.
Second, our thanksgiving translates into commitment for the future. Having experienced such abundant blessings, we are compelled to give even more. As we each prayerfully consider our pledge for 2023, let us do so with great expectation and anticipation for what God has in store for FPC, and for us individually, remembering that God seeks our all because God gives us all.
Dedication Sunday, October 30, will be a time of great celebration in our life together at FPC. Pledge any time until then using either the traditional pledge card you received in the mail or can find at church or by accessing online giving through the QR code below.

Responding to Hurricane Ian
We encourage those who want to help the survivors of Hurricane Ian to give directly to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul rather than to FPC. You can donate on their website, or mail a check payable to St. Vincent de Paul to 25200 Airport Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Every penny of your donation will go directly to help those most in need.

Get Ready for Pumpkin Palooza
FPC is the place to be on Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. We’re having an all-church gathering we’re calling Pumpkin Palooza. We’ll paint pumpkins, plant pansies, play games, and nosh. Be there or be that geometric shape that no one would mistake for a pumpkin!

Trunk or Treat Is Creeping Up
Will you help us with some spooky fun? We are looking for 12 to 16 ghoulish vehicles and more candy than you can shake a skeletal finger at. Decorate a car, park it in the Fairmount Elementary School lot, hand out sweets, and join in the fun! Or just bring a large bag of candy to the church and drop it in one of the bins in the fellowship hallway or by the office. It’s Trunk or Treat, and it’s happening Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. To reserve a parking space or learn more, contact Audrey Arndt, Dave Welch, or Lilly Osborne.

Wednesday Fellowship Suppers
The best meal of the week is Wednesday night in the FPC Fellowship Hall! Family-style dinner begins at 5:30, and programs for children, youth, and adults follow at 6:15. To offset the cost of the meal, we suggest an offering of $5 per adult, $3 per child, but no more than $15 per family. Family is anyone who comes with you in your car! Please join us!

“The Servant Song” (our second hymn) began in 1977 when Richard Gillard (b. 1953) jotted down what became its third verse on a piece of paper, which he stashed in his guitar case. On returning from travels in Britain, Europe, and Israel, he retrieved it and completed the song. The original first line of verses 1 and 6 was “Brother, let me be your servant.” Since then, the text has been altered to be more inclusive. The song, first recorded in New Zealand, appears in many hymnals and has been sung around the world. Gillard was born in England and taken at age three to New Zealand, where he has lived since on the North Island. His faith background is a mixture of the Anglican Church on his mother’s side of the family and the Pentecostal Church on his father’s. He admits to little systematic musical training, but from the age of seven he began to play the ukulele and other such instruments, often to accompany his own singing. He learned by experimenting and later with the help of his father and of Pentecostal church musicians. Gillard usually invokes the aid of experts to put his songs on paper.
