Perennial Plant of the Year
From Perennial Plant

The Perennial Plant Association is pleased to announce the 2022 Perennial Plant of the Year®, Schizachyrium scoparium and cultivars.

The Perennial Plant of the Year® program began in 1990 to showcase a perennial that is a standout among its competitors! Perennials chosen for this honor are suitable for a wide range of growing climates, require low maintenance, have multiple-season interest, and are relatively pest/disease-free. The Perennial Plant Association Board of Directors reviews the nominated perennials and selects three or four perennials to be placed on a voting ballot. Perennial Plant Association members vote for the Perennial Plant of the Year® and nominate additional plants for the following year’s ballot. In addition, Perennial Plant Association members have access to a flyer, poster, and bench card to assist with promoting the Perennial Plant of the Year®.

Meet Two of Your New Board Members
Sean Pearl, Sustainable Landscape Solutions

Sean recently joined the INLA board in 2021. He grew up in Coralville, Iowa and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids for business. At Coe is where he met his future wife, Meredith. Sean graduated from Coe in 2004 with degrees in business and economics and attended the University of Dubuque where he graduated with his Masters in Business Administration in 2006. Sean and Meredith married in 2010, the same year that Meredith graduated from the Environmental Engineering Masters program at the University of Iowa.

Fueled by Meredith's experience and desire to build rain gardens during her volunteer time with Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW), and Sean's desire to build projects that benefit water quality, they started their business, Sustainable Landscape Solutions (SLS) in 2016. Sean's background in business and management, coupled with Meredith's background in environmental engineering and her Professional Engineering license made for a great team that continues to grow and guide their SLS family today.

Sean and Meredith live in Coralville and enjoy canoeing and getting out into nature with their two daughters, Amelia (7) and Lucy (4) and their black lab, Pepper!
