SCRC'S Caregiver of the Month Spotlight: Patty
Patty has been caring for her mother for over 20 years. Patty’s mother is diabetic and receives dialysis treatment; Patty helps her with day-to-day tasks and mobility, as well as scheduling and driving her to her medical appointments. She strongly believes that caregivers must learn not only how to address their care receiver’s needs, but their own needs and emotions, too.
Patty is proud to care for her mother at home and appreciates that she is able to offer a safe, loving environment while maintaining family traditions. Her experience working for a home care company has boosted her knowledge, confidence, and experience in caregiving with kindness. Patty also credits SCRC with contributing to her formal education and training in caregiving, as well as her overall understanding of her mother’s illness and treatment needs.
“Is caregiving easy? Not always. Is it possible? Yes, because we are surrounded by goodwill. It’s crucial to ask for help when you need it.”
