Tour of Milford highlights affordable housing opportunities
To better grasp the future of affordable housing in the city, officials took to the streets to tour what is already in place and where this housing would be best suited in years to come.

During the affordable housing plan meeting last week, both Julie Nash, the city’s development director, and David Fink, a housing policy consultant for the South Central Regional Council of Governments, said they would drive around the city to analyze potential locations for affordable housing — which they did this week.

“(Residents) said they wanted to see what kind of affordable housing we have now, what things are in mid-development, what things are brand new, so that’s what we did,” said Nash. Read More

Gov. Lamont delivers upbeat state of the state address
Wednesday was a big day at the state capitol.

The legislative session got underway and Gov. Ned Lamont helped usher it in with his State of the State address.

Lamont addressed several important issues that will have some sort of impact on the residents of Connecticut. Three of those topics include masks in schools, gun proposals, and cracking down on juvenile crime.

His message Wednesday was a positive one. Lamont says that the state is in better shape than it was three years ago and that it is doing financially well. Read More
Avelo Airlines celebrates 100th day of service at Tweed New Haven Airport
It's up, up, and away for Avelo Airlines!

Houston-based Avelo hit the sky on their 100th day of service celebration at Tweed New Haven Airport on Friday.

"Now we’re here at 100 days and we’re looking towards the future," said Issac Naylor, base manager for Avelo Airlines.

Avelo is a new airline with its first flight ever in April 2021, and its first flight out of New Haven in November 2021.

Despite the short time, they’ve already served thousands of customers and plan on serving thousands more. Read More
Yale New Haven Health to acquire Manchester Memorial Hospital, Rockville General Hospital and Waterbury Hospital
Yale New Haven Health and Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. Thursday announced they have signed an agreement for the Yale health system to acquire Manchester Memorial Hospital, Rockville General Hospital in Vernon and Waterbury Hospital.

The nonprofit Yale system will buy Prospect’s Waterbury HEALTH and ECHN, or Eastern Connecticut Health Network. The deal will include the health systems’ related businesses, real estate assets, physician clinic operations and outpatient services, according to spokesmen for the healthcare organizations.

The agreement is subject to regulatory approval, they said. Yale hopes to complete the transaction later this year. Read More
