We Need YOU!

Calling All Volunteers

Although the demand for food has stabilized since the height of the pandemic, we are bracing ourselves for an increased need due to impending economic conditions. Supply chain issues, lower inventory, and labor shortages have impacted our hunger relief programs across the board.

In addition, the recent spike in COVID-19 infections from the Omicron variant continues to create staffing and operational challenges. We are short-handed and in need of volunteers to help at our East Boca Raton location.

Priority volunteer jobs include prepping food in the kitchen, packing pantry bags of food, and packing meat and produce in the warehouse. There are also group volunteer opportunities for up to 20 participants. For more information about specific roles and shifts, click here

Volunteer Spotlight

Over the past six months, Greg Morency has helped the Job Training Program through a variety of roles.

After recently retiring from an executive career in the global food and beverage industry, Greg Morency found himself with more time on his hands and felt compelled to give back.

Greg has already proven to be an asset to our Job Training Program and serves many roles within the department. Most recently, he served on our hiring committee for a new Job Training Admissions and Care Coordinator.

During our Job Readiness classes, he leads a resume workshop for our newly admitted job training students. In addition, he serves as a BHH Job Mentor and meets virtually with students one-on-one to help them polish their resume, prepare for interviews, and navigate job sites.

Having had a successful career, he wanted to pay it forward and help others launch into their new paths.

"I've been able to see the impact firsthand," he said. "To be able to help students transition from their training to a career is fulfilling."

Job Training Update

Ramon S. started our program in October and has recently earned his Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

After retiring from a 21-year career with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Ramon S. was looking to transition from working at sea to over-the-road transportation.

With his previous experience, he knew CDL would be a good fit for him and would allow him to continue exploring new places.

In addition to launching his career into commercial driving, he said BHH's Job Readiness class was an "eye-opening experience" that taught him to be patient when it comes to success.

Since passing his exam, Ramon has been meeting with a BHH Job Mentor to work on his resume and secure employment. He is looking forward to gaining valuable experience on the road.

To those considering our Job Training Program, Ramon says, "Boca Helping Hands is there to open the door for you. Invest in your career for yourself and your family."

Supported by The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, the Boca Helping Hands Commercial Driving Job Training Program empowers students like Ramon to start new careers and fulfill their dreams.
