February 2021
For the Love of the Dental Team
Building the perfect team can be a challenge, and many of us may be seeing turnovers, changes, and updates to our overall dental team. So how can we help get our team members up to speed, build new skills, or even cultivate new techniques in skills they have mastered? Well your answer is with the Arizona AGD series for Dental Team members. In these courses, your RDH's and/or RDA's will be able to learn about SDF placement, prepare for the RDA radiology certification exam, as well as even learn how to create predictable provisionals. What a better way to have our support team have the extra support that they need to treat our patients best?! All doctor members are able to have TWO staff members attend per course. Hurry, spots will fill quickly!

Dentist Administrating COVID 19 Vaccinations
By Dr. Stephen Glaze, DMD
Legislative Communications Chair

COVID-19 vaccinations are now available, yet thousands of eligible people are still waiting for an appointment to receive the vaccine. Therefore, many states are allowing dentist to administer the vaccine. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), the following states allow dentists to administer the vaccine: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Washington. This flexibility shows the important role that dentists can play in fighting the pandemic. Although Arizona does not currently allow dentists to administer the vaccine, that could change soon given the high demand for the vaccine. Recently, Senator T.J. Shope (R-Coolidge) proposed the SB1504 and this bill would allow “dentist responders” to provide vaccines and “dental humanitarian care” during local, state, or national emergency. Although this bill is in its infancy stage it could make progress in the Senate. You can find more information of SB1504 on trackbill.com.
Member Spotlight!
Jason Eaton graduated with his DDS from the University of Nebraska in 1998, beginning his membership in the AGD in his 3rd year of dental school. And he’s been an active member ever since. After completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in the US Air Force, he was assigned to Lajes Air Base, Azores, Portugal, then to Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Dr. Eaton then stayed in Utah and opened a dental practice, which he owned for 17 years. Two years ago, he accepted Clinical Professor positions at both Roseman University CODM and University of Utah SOD. And then just this summer, he moved to Phoenix to accept a position at Midwestern University CDMA. Dr. Eaton has served in the AGD as Secretary in the Utah AGD, and is currently the Regional Director in Region 14. He received his FAGD in 2017 and his MAGD in 2018.

A Note from the President:
Happy New Year!

While this is an unprecedented time for the world, it also gives us the opportunity to be creative as we redirect our energy to building stronger connections and communities. In an effort to allow our volunteer board members and our general members to focus on their families and personal needs.

The Arizona AGD hit the pause button for a while... but we hit the ground running in September with some quality, affordable CE courses for our members, while still adhering to the safety precautions set forth by the CDC. We have provided and will continue to provide virtual, in-person, and hybrid course opportunities for our members. Please keep an eye on our calendar of events to continue developing your skills as a health care provider. If there are any creative ideas you have that we can do to serve you better, please reach out to us at arizoanagd14@gmail.com.

As always, we serve our members with pride and passion. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at mailyduongdmd@gmail.com or via Instagram @drsmileymaily. Wishing you good health, safety, and strength in the new year.

Always,
Mai-Ly Duong, DMD, MPH, MAEd, MAGD
Arizona AGD President
