IB Bulldogs Blast

Greetings Tubman Families,

Thank you for making week one with students so great! It was so good to see everyone and to have our Bulldogs back in action. It’s been a long pandemic but it is starting to feel like school again in the best way. Our educators focused this week on building community, establishing routines, and essential agreements. It is evident that our students and staff were all happy to be back together as we visited classrooms.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we establish our arrival and dismissal routines. We look forward to seeing you soon at upcoming events. Please see below for updates and announcements.

In partnership,

Principal Gibson and Assistant Principal Moore

Tubman will be participating in CPS Score, a sports league with Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. For the Fall, we are offering Girl’s Volleyball.

Sports are a great way to manage time, stay active, and make lots of new friends. Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursday  and games on Saturdays.

We expect to release a practice schedule soon. We will also be offering coed Flag Football.   Please contact Mr. Oni with any additional questions at doni@cps.edu.

COVID-19 Precautions

Last year we reached just about an 80% vaccination rate for our age-eligible students. We urge all our families to get vaccinated. Vaccination is the number one thing we can do to reduce the spread of COVID and to reduce its severity if you do get COVID.

Masks are optional except if there is an in-class exposure. If a person has tested positive for COVID who was in class during their infectious period, the entire class is required to mask for ten days from the last date of exposure. That masking requirement is for all students regardless of vaccination status or recent recovery from COVID.

Students with COVID are required to quarantine for 5 days (or 10 days if they continue to be symptomatic on day 6).

Quarantine is no longer required for students exposed to COVID unless they test positive.

CPS is still offering weekly PCR testing at schools. You have to sign up again if you'd like your child to be tested at Tubman. The sign up link is here: https://t.e2ma.net/click/t154dp/lj66im/5izcxhf

Volunteers

Here at Tubman we support an inclusive culture by looking for the support and involvement of community members during the day as volunteers. Volunteers  are parents and/or community members that want to give their time to support our school.

All Bulldogs Helpers are required to complete the volunteer process through CPS, applications are here.  Volunteers are required to be Level 2 volunteers.

Questions from the Parent Community

Will there be a curriculum night this year? Will it be in person?

We are working with staff to finalize these details and hope to share details by the end of this week.

Will there be any Fall enrichment programs?

Tubman has been awarded another round of grant funding for "Out of School Time Programming" which will enable our staff to offer high-quality, interesting after school programs to our students at no cost. We expect to share this information within the next few weeks.

We will again be offering violin, ukulele and concert band via our partnership with Music House. Click here for more information from Music House

Will parents be able to volunteer in the school and classrooms this year?

We love having our families in the building and look forward to finding ways to work together. CPS requires that all volunteers submit an application. If you are interested in volunteering at Tubman, please review the CPS information found at https://www.cps.edu/services-and-supports/parent-engagement/volunteer-programs/ and consider beginning the application process.

Many volunteer opportunities exist with Friends of Tubman, our fundraising and community building parent organization. More information about Friends of Tubman can be found here

Will we have in person assemblies and performances this year?

Yes, more information forthcoming.

Do we have student and/or class fees this year?

This year, Tubman was able to provide all classroom supplies to eliminate the need for classroom lists and kits. But we continue to depend on student fees to cover additional supplies and subscriptions that allow us to provide well-rounded experiences for our students. For this school year, we have adopted a one-time $150 School.

Fee for all students in Kindergarten – 8th Grade. We ask families to pay the fees by September 19, 2022.  To learn more about student fees click here

Pay student fees now via ASPEN (If you do not know your child's identification number, you can just place zeros in the box as we can track payment based on name)

If you are in need of financial assistance and/or unable to pay the requested fees, please complete this form
