Biden Administration Launches Offshore Wind
On Monday, President Biden announced numerous offshore wind initiatives that will jumpstart our green economic recovery. Chiefly, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in the Dept. of Interior has announced new wind energy areas in the NY Bight that will be leased and auctioned at the end of this year/ beginning of 2022. This is crucial for New York to reach its 9GW goal by 2035. CJNY is proud to have been a part of this effort and worked with Rep. Kathleen Rice's office on multiple occasions to secure this victory.
Additional announcements were related to port infrastructure investments to develop a domestic supply chain, research and development funding, and a shared goal across multiple federal departments to realize 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030. LEARN MORE:

Thank You to All Who Turned Out to Support the South Fork Wind Project!
On March 18, the New York Public Service Commission, in a 4-0 vote, approved the cable landing and interconnection into our grid for Orsted/Eversource's South Fork Wind Project. This is a momentous milestone to move this project forward.

The Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need is a part of the Article 7 process that governs the siting of major utility transmission facilities in the state. This has been two years in the making and with Climate Jobs NY's (CJNY) education and advocacy, we helped secure this win. You can find our joint press release with our environmental and industry partners here, and coverage from Newsday and the East Hampton Star below:

Climate Jobs NY Was Proud to Submit Comments on the Initial Report of the NY Power Grid Study

In our comments, CJNY highlighted that New York’s clean energy economy can only be effectively realized with an efficient and cost-effective transmission infrastructure. As we continue to electrify and inject clean renewable energy into New York’s system, it is clear that robust transmission upgrades are crucial for the state’s long-term energy future and this work must be done by a trained and qualified workforce.
