UU ACTION NETWORK OF ILLINOIS
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
|
|
Note the start time is 15 minutes earlier than the usual time!
|
|
Join 15 Unitarian Universalist congregations across Illinois (including Rev. Caplow and choir members from UUCUC) and the Unitarian Universalist Advocacy Network of Illinois (UUANI) for a Democracy Revival; we will join voices to encourage our get-out-the vote efforts as we work to be the faithful voice for democracy, which has always been a core to our Unitarian Universalist faith. Using our online technologies, we will be able to join the resources and energies for this worship service. Join with hundreds of other Unitarian Universalists for a Democracy Revival to revive democracy and our spirits!
They will have a pre-offering of music from the congregations involved. Join in at 9:30 am at the same link to hear music from around the state.

UPCOMING MEETINGS, CLASSES & EVENTS

Saturday, October 31
How often do we think of ourselves as a community within a community? Unitarian Universalist churches are both sanctuaries and beacons of hope in communities around the country. What is our role in creating healthy inclusive churches that live up to the promises of Unitarian Universalism? We invite you into a Youth and Adult Spiritual Development Workshop with Paula Cole Jones to explore these questions and more. The 4-hour class will be held the second time on Saturday, October 31 from 10 AM to 2:30 PM. Click here to watch a brief interview between Michele Grove and Paula Cole Jones that explains this exciting event.

In 2019, the religious education committee transitioned into a religious education council. The focus of the council is to coordinate all aspects of lifespan religious education and to coordinate its efforts with UUCUC’s mission and vision. Three times a year, the full council meets to look at the full program and dream about our learning future. Our next meeting is will be held online on Saturday, November 21, 2020. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session (watch for more clarity on the time and subject matter of each session). Anyone interested in how lifelong learning is lived out in our congregation is welcome to attend. Religious education council meetings are open to everyone. Continued...

UUCUC'S "BUDDY SYSTEM"
Staying connected while
UUCUC facilities are closed
During this time of social distancing, staying in touch and checking in with each other is going to be very important. We hope you will consider being part of our "Buddy System" so we can care for one another.
You can sign up here: https://uucuc.breezechms.com/form/2184f1. Buddies will check in with each other regularly by phone to provide connection, companionship, and connections to help if needed. This is a great way to help each other.

From Suzanne "Snaps" Ginger: Thank you to all in the church community who helped me handle recent shoulder surgery and getting to therapy appointments! Your help and support was much appreciated!
From Scott Rohde: Joy for the life and work of Hungarian (and Unitaritan!) composer Béla Bartók, who died 75 years ago last month, on September 26th. Although I grew up in a small town where one of his students was the bane of some of my classmates’ young lives, my own piano teacher cleverly pointed out to me how logical and mathematical his compositions were, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
From Sandy Hannum: Last Friday was Jim Hannum's 75th birthday. That's 75 years of awesomeness! I am so glad to be sharing life with him. He delights and amazes me every day.
From Kathleen Holden and David Prochaska: Joy at welcoming a beautiful great grandson Taylor James Courtney on October 14!
From Jeanne & Dennis Murphy: Joy at being able to join the service from Columbia!
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service each Sunday. They will be read aloud.
