Grendel's Den has partnered with ONCE Somerville to provide food and drinks for Once In Valhalla.
Normally this would be a 10-course Viking feast with live acting and a lot of togetherness, but this year, the fates had different plans for us. This time our Viking adventure will be brought to us virtually, but it doesn't mean you need to miss out on feasting! More information available here.

Longy Gala
Longy School of Music of Bard College - Virtual Gala Celebration
On Monday, March 15th, 2021 at 7:00 p.m., the Longy School of Music at Bard College will hold its Virtual Gala Celebration. The evening will begin with a virtual Bernstein Award reception, honoring the legacy of Ellis Marsalis, Jr. (1934–2020), and will continue on to the Gala Celebration at 8:00 p.m., which will include the official presentation of the Leonard Bernstein Lifetime Achievement Award for the Elevation of Music in Society. Marsalis’ passion for education and his lasting effects on the world of jazz will be explored in a conversation with Jamie Bernstein, Wynton Marsalis, and Ellis Marsalis III at the reception.

The 2021 Longy School of Music Gala will also highlight the school’s activities during the last year, with a focus on its work to make the field of music more equitable and accessible. Attendees will get a firsthand look at how Longy students and faculty have continued to make music in spite of the year’s challenges. The program includes several special performances, featured stories, and behind-the-scenes footage.
This event will benefit the Longy School of Music’s Access for Equity Campaign, which provides scholarships, fellowships, and support for social change initiatives. So far, the campaign has raised $212,000 to help students break through barriers and achieve their goals in music and social projects alike.

Cambridge Center for Adult Education Classes

When we talk about Indian street food, we’ll think about Mumbai as the center of Indian street food full of carts on the street. We’ll be making two different famous Indian Frankies, also known as Kathi rolls. We’ll make paneer Kathi rolls, a warm, flaky, (readymade) paratha filled with spicy paneer with gravy, mint chutney, and caramelized onions. Then, we’ll finish up with a veggie frankie filled with potato kebabs, mint chutney, and pickled onions. Before we roll, we’ll sprinkle some cheese! You are welcome to cook along in this online class or just watch and learn. The list of ingredients needed will be sent prior to the class along with the Zoom link.

In Zisolhouse farm, fresh ingredients are the key elements to make delicious and nutritious food and wine. Almonds were cultivated in Sicily before BC and have a reputation for its sweetness. Let’s have a quick tour of this farm and learn how to make almond milk from scratch. You’ll experience the huge difference between homemade almond milk and a store-bought one. Fabio and Annarella will share their perspectives about sustainability of almond farming and their family recipes from the medieval time to cook with almond pulps. This is truly sustainable farming with zero-waste.

Revels Spring Sing: A Free Family Celebration of the Vernal Equinox.
Spring is in the air! That means Revels is gearing up for our annual celebration of the Vernal Equinox!
Revels launched Spring Sing more than 25 years ago to celebrate the spring equinox in song and poetry. This year’s theme is “Renewal” and includes song and poetry with uplifting and hopeful energy and excellent singalong potential. In addition, two young poets will be reciting their own poems, written expressly for this year’s Spring Sing.
Featured song leaders include Revels Artist in Residence David Coffin, musicians Sayida Rivers, Derek Burrows, Natty Smith and Erika Roderick, and Revels acting Music Director George Emlen. (George will also host the event.) Two pairs of young sisters – one from Ireland – will also lead us in song.
Spring Sing is a free virtual event and is supported, in part, by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

"Nature As Artist"
A Free, Self-Guided, Virtual Tour of the Harvard Museum of Natural History
Nature has long inspired we humans to imagine and create art. Dancers, designers, musicians, painters, and sculptors – they are all found in the natural world. Embark on this journey through the exhibit galleries of the Harvard Museum of Natural History, where we will reveal intriguing, and often surprising, sources of creativity and connection between the realms of nature and art.
Learn about crystallized color by looking at an elbaite tourmaline specimen from our mineral gallery, marvel at a Blaschka glass model of an apricot branch in the Glass Flowers gallery and Blaschka-made glass sea anemones in the Sea Creatures gallery. Visit the honeybees in the arthropods exhibit and discover how they achieve mastery in the architecture of their hives. Get to know a Triceratops fossil, African pangolin, and Indian Peafowl, and the coordinated movement of schooling fish. Sing with the whales in the Great Mammal Hall and recreate Peter and the Wolf in the New England Forests Exhibit.

Looking for a way to fight hunger this spring? Join Food For Free's team on Sunday, May 2nd for the 53rd annual (virtual) Walk for Hunger! A long-loved event, Project Bread’s Walk For Hunger has helped provide over 1 billion meals to hungry people and has been a vehicle to raise funds to support and expand community solutions to hunger throughout the state. Through Project Bread's Commonwealth Program, 60% of the money raised by the Food For Free Team will go directly to Food For Free. The other 40% will go to the Walk Fund which helps fund food programs across the state.
Our Mission: Food For Free improves access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste, strengthening the community food system, and creating new distribution channels to reach under-served populations. Food For Free envisions a future where everyone in our community—regardless of age, income or ability—has consistent access to fresh, healthy, delicious food.
There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum required. Please spread the word to family and friends...all are welcome to join Team Food For Free and raise funds. Because of the virtual nature of the event, you can really do whatever you would like...walk, run, ride a bike, dance...it's up to you!

The Cambridge-Ellis School at 80 Trowbridge Street, a 15 minute walk from the heart of Harvard Square, has limited places available in the French and Spanish groups for our Summer 2021 program. Children ages 2-6 experience joyful play steeped in nature, arts, and language immersion with highly experienced early childhood educators who are native speakers. Our beautiful, spacious playgrounds offer vast opportunities for active adventures and refreshing water play! The children also take weekly walks to nearby green spaces. Since September, the Cambridge-Ellis School has been open for in-person learning and we continue to observe all health and safety regulations and precautions under the guidance of our team of medical advisers.
The Summer program runs from June 14- July 2 (Session A) and July 6- July 23 (Session B.) We offer half-day schedule until noon, or full-day schedule until 3:00 pm. Register here.

Spring Classes & Workshop Registration

Open Auditions
On Thursday, March 25, and Sunday, April 11, Saint Paul's Choir School will offer in-person Open Auditions.
This is an exciting opportunity for boys and families who are interested in Saint Paul's Choir School. Any boy can join us at the school for a 5-10 minute audition and his family can hear immediate feedback from the Director of Music. All parties must wear a mask.
