GENERAL
SPRING SEMESTER AP EXAM SIGN-UP
Seniors enrolled in U.S. Gov or Econ for second semester who did not prepay for their AP in the fall must complete this AP Spring Econ/Gov Exam Registration form and return it with payment to the Main Office by TOMORROW,  Feb. 12. A $50 late fee will be collected for all forms received after Feb. 12. Not sure if you've already paid? Email Mrs. Breitenstein at [email protected] for help.
 
PAL-ENTINE DAY
Hey 9th graders! Link Crew is hosting a fun filled meetup for all freshmen TODAY from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. There will be breakout rooms for games like Minecraft, Pictionary and more. Another room gives advice to help you choose   your sophomore classes and a different room for watching Shrek! You'll be entered into a raffle for some sweet prizes just by coming to the meeting with your camera on. Stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole time. Bring your friends and meet new ones. The link to join will be posted to the Link Crew Group TEAMS page ten minutes before the fun begins.
 
WALK FOR LIFE
It's almost time for the annual Walk for Life event to raise money to support ALS research. We have a personal connection to ALS as Peninsula High graduate, Eric Stevens, is battling this dreaded disease. If you are interested in being a Walk for Life ambassador, sign up here. The first mandatory meeting for the ambassadors is Tuesday, Feb. 16 at lunchtime. You need to sign up first to receive the link to the meeting.
 
WALK FOR LIFE T-SHIRT CONTEST
Walk for Life will look different this year, but the Walk for Life tee shirts with a student created design on the front will still be distributed to participants. Please submit your designs [email protected] by Friday, Feb. 19. The design must be at least 300 DPI and include the following: PVPHS Walk for Life 2021 Benefitting ALS as well as the hashtag #AxeALS. Use blue or black in your design as the tee shirts are white. No hand drawn submissions will be accepted; graphic design programs like Adobe Illustrator are best.
 
MICROAGGRESSIONS TALK
What is a microaggression? Learn more from Dr. Song at a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 1:00 pm on Zoom. This program is sponsored by the PTSA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Join the meeting here.
 
CAPS & GOWNS
Seniors may place orders for graduation caps and gowns, class rings, and letterman jackets online. Click here to download  the brochure which includes additional details and the order form. NOTE: if you order the basic package, which includes cap, gown, tassel and medallion, the cost is $40 plus tax and processing fee. It is in the green section of the order form under "Senior Pride" and is listed as "Cap and Gown Unit." If you purchase this unit, you keep the cap, gown, tassel and medallion.  Students may also use a loaner gown, cap, medallion at no cost. To use the loaner package, which is paid for by our school, fill out the form here by Monday, Feb. 15, 2021. If you choose the loaner package, all items must be returned to Peninsula following the graduation ceremony. Orders may be placed at moongradservices.com.
 
SENIOR PORTRAITS
If you have not had your senior picture taken, upload a portrait to eShare with the school code 7435 so it may be placed in the yearbook. Deadline to submit is this Friday, Feb. 12. Follow the detailed instructions for taking a portrait here.
 
JNHS
Join the Japanese National Honor Society for a Valentine event TOMORROW, Feb. 12 at 4:00 pm on Zoom. You'll learn about the differences between Japanese and American Valentine's Day celebrations as well as enjoy a chocolate cooking/decorating lesson. FOOD & FUNDS
Treat your Valentine to some Hawaiian food and help the PTSA at the same time this Sunday, Feb. 14 from 11:00 to 3:00. Come to Big Island Eats at the Promenade, mention the PTSA when you place your order and a percentage of your total will be donated to our PTSA. Big Island Eats is owned by a Peninsula High family.
 
PTSA BOOK CLUB
Meet with Panther families to discuss The Color of Law at the first PTSA Book Club meeting this Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9:00 to 10:30 am on Zoom. The Color of Law details how federal housing policies in the 1940s and 1950s mandated segregation and hindered Black families from buying their own homes. Shereen Walter, Director of Legislation for the state PTA and Carol Kocivar, past president of the California PTA and current legislative advocate are the guest facilitators. Register here.
 
A.I. SUMMER SCHOOL
AI Scholars Live Online is a 10 session, pre-college enrichment program that exposes 9th to 12th grade students to fundamental AI concepts. Taught by a team of Stanford graduate students, each participant receives a personalized learning experience with a student-teacher ratio of 4:1. There are multiple dates open for both the spring semester and summer school programs. Students may apply here by February 15 for the spring semester and learn more by perusing the brochure. COUNSELING
COURSE INFO SESSIONS
Click here to join the lunchtime session TODAY at 12:25 pm to learn about three one semester social science electives taught by Mrs. Webster. You may choose Ethics, which will cover political tribalism, eugenics, cloning and more. There is also Comparative Religions, which includes the study of all major eastern and western religions and Advanced Philosophy, which discusses the views of major philosophers and themes. Another offering is Ethnic Studies and Wellness, which will help students explore personal growth and development. You may want to consider joining PLUS (Peer Leaders Uniting Students), a leadership program to identify and address critical issues that impact students on campus. COURSE SELECTIONS 2021-2022
Students need to log into their Aeries accounts to make their course requests for the 2021-2022 school year. The portal is open through Friday, Feb. 19. Some of your classes may have already been added following recommendations from your teachers. These classes may not be removed by students, but you may select a different course. If you do not meet the prerequisite (review the Course Description Handbook for prerequisites), then you must submit a Request for Placement form and submit it to your counselor by May 28.

Counselors will meet individually with each student. Courses must be entered into the Aeries student portal and the scheduling form completed before the counselor meetings take place. FRESHMEN will be seen through their English class March 8 to 19. SOPHOMORES are being seen through the sophomore counseling program which will take place throughout the spring semester. JUNIORS will be seen through their English class February 22 to March 5.
 
If you are planning to take Summer School, please review this link. The link will give you access to information about PVPSS, out of district forms, online schools that are A-G and NCAA as well as information about community college courses and dual enrollment. The deadline for these forms to be returned to counselors is May 28.
 
COLLEGE CAREER CENTER
FREE PRACTICE S.A.T & A.C.T. TESTS
Mark your calendars juniors and sophomores-there is a free, full length practice SAT test on February 20 and a free, full length practice ACT test on March 6. Both tests are proctored and virtual and begin promptly at 9:00 am. Students may sign up for one or both tests. Register here or go to the CCC pages on Pen's website. A confirmation email will be sent the week of the test.

TRACK & FIELD TRYOUTS
Get away from the screen and have some socially distanced live workouts at the track and field tryouts Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm plus Thursday and Friday, Feb. 18 and 19 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm at Pen's track. Even if you don't know what you're good at, come and try. Coaches and captains will be there to lead you in the right direction. Tryouts are mandatory and season details will be discussed then.
