Tips for Employees and Employers

While close to 80 percent of managers in the United States will say, “I am an ally,” when we actually look at brass tacks...that drops off to the low teens. - Lareina Yee, Mckinsey

Employees
The pandemic has undoubtedly impacted overall well-being. To avoid burnout, first, you should know the top causes and how to prevent them:
-
Workload - Set clear priorities and goals for yourself. Schedule regular check-in with your team or manager.
-
Control - Lack of control over resources needed to do your job can contribute to stress. Create outlines and break down large projects.
- Reward - Financial and Social rewards are essential, so make sure you communicate what motivates you.
- Community - Covid-19 and working from home have made it harder to gain a sense of belonging and social acceptance while at work. Stepping out of your comfort zone and joining an Employee Resource Group (ERG) or attending team-building events can be great ways to build connections with colleagues.

Employers
Helping employees find a sustainable work-life balance should be a corporate priority to prevent employee burnout and ensure workplace equity. Supporting employees’ well-being by helping them find work-life balance is one way to clarify that workplace relationships aren’t merely transactional.
pr
Here are a few ways you can prioritize employees:
- Adopt flexible work norms.
- Lead by example and get to know your employees.
- Encourage employees to use their flexible benefits.
- Model the behavior you expect from employees.
- Give people clear deliverables and let them decide the best way to complete their tasks.
- Outline what’s expected and provide the training and support.
