Seeking Interest: Become a FIPPOA Director or Post Office Head of Operations

FIPPOA Board Election

At the September 23rd Fall Community Meeting, we will elect four Directors. With Matt Tague’s decision to step down from the board, there will be an opportunity to elect at least one new member to the board. I would like to encourage all regular members to consider stepping up their engagement in the community by placing their name in nomination.

Justin Blake is this year’s Nominations Chair. He will be presenting a slate of candidates to the FIPPOA board on August 5th; therefore, candidates interested in running need to express their commitment to Justin prior to that date.

Justin may be reached at Justin.Blake@edelman.com. He can answer any questions and guide you through the process. And of course, I am also available to explore your interest. Replies to this email are directed to me.

FIPPOA oversees many, varied and critical areas of interest that enable our community to thrive. It takes dedicated, hardworking Directors, who also receive significant gratification by giving back to the community we all love. I encourage you to consider stepping up, and this year is an excellent opportunity to do so.

Pines Post Office

The Pines Post Office is open from mid-Spring to mid-Fall. While the USPS supports the office, FIPPOA is responsible for the local operations, and like many other community services, relies on a team of dedicated volunteers. Gene Cook, who has headed the operations for the past 4 years, is now ready to pass the torch.

The head of operations is responsible for overseeing a team of volunteers as well as the operating responsibilities required by the USPS (paperwork and accounting), the retail operations of the front desk during opening hours (generally 11AM to ~2PM, three days/week), as well as sorting all the packages received and notifying recipients. While this is primarily a volunteer position, there is a small stipend paid at the end of the season.

If you are interested in succeeding Gene, please reach out to either him at PinesPostOffice@gmail.com or me by reply to this email. Ideally, we will identify his successor before the end of this season so that they may work side-by-side for a few weeks before the post office closes.

In solidarity with and appreciation for voluntary leaders in the Pines,

Henry
