Celebrating the Ministry of Shirley Derryberry
Sunday, February 13, 12:15-2:00 p.m.
FLC Great Hall
The First Church community invites you to celebrate the 34-year music ministry of Shirley Derryberry. Shirley’s life-long love of music and her musical education background created the perfect combination for her service with youth and adult handbell choirs and children’s music. We will honor Shirley’s dedication and commitment during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, followed by a reception afterward. A collection basket for notes and love offerings will be available at the reception. Offerings can also be made through online giving by designating "Love Offering for Shirley Derryberry."

Spanish language skills are a bonus, but aren’t required. FUMC has a long-standing relationship with Pickle Elementary through its book sale and other literacy projects. To support these young students as they learn, email Bergan Casey.

Are You FUMC's Next Usher?
Are you the kind of person who never meets a stranger? Is your house the one where neighbors know they are always welcome? More than door-holders and plate-passers, ushers offer a ministry of hospitality and care that helps make members and guests feel at home in worship at FUMC. Would you prayerfully consider making a commitment to usher at the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. worship service once a month? For more information or to volunteer to serve, email Stan Casey or Chris Story.

LENTEN STUDIES AND SMALL GROUPS
Since You Asked...
Thursdays, March 3-April 7
7:00-8:00 p.m.
FLC Garrison Chapel and Zoom
Join retired pastors Rev. John Wright and Rev. John McMullen in an engaging conversation about YOUR questions and topics of discussion. NO READING ASSIGNMENTS - just bring yourself!

The only requirement is to submit at least one question/topic for discussion by February 24. Questions can address what Christians "should" or "can" believe, other religions, Methodist tradition, and faith in real life – you name it. No question or topic is off limits! Ask about anything you’ve ever wondered. Each week, two or three questions will be selected from those submitted for discussion. Together, we’ll consider historical context and theological background. We hope you will bring your own insights, too, and be prepared for lively discussion!
Lenten Small Groups
Beginning week of March 6
Sign Up Now!
Small groups help you deepen your relationship with God and with others at church. Over the six weeks of Lent, groups of 8-12 participants will engage in conversations with group facilitators about their life experiences and explore questions of faith. All adult members of our FUMC community are encouraged to take this step to grow during Lent. Sunday School classes may choose to engage with the questions as a group as well. Groups will begin meeting the week of March 6.
For more information about any of FUMC's Lenten studies and small groups, contact Director of Discipleship Emily Buchanan.

Now Hiring Childcare Staff

In addition, FUMC is hiring new Childcare Staff to work 4 hours per week, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Sundays. Opportunities to earn extra hours may be offered for both positions on occasion. Please email Jen Seibel with any questions and to apply.
FEBRUARY MISSION EMPHASIS
Each month we highlight a ministry or program that we see transforming lives and invite you to support it with your prayers and gifts above and beyond your regular financial support. This month’s mission emphasis is Huston-Tillotson University. As Austin’s oldest institution of higher education and its only Historically Black College and University (HBCU), the university is a sacred space. HBCUs play a vital role in dismantling racial inequity, developing community, and educating future world leaders.

Join our continuing investment in the students and the work of Huston-Tillotson University through their Annual Fund. Your gifts, marked "Huston-Tillotson," may be left in the Offering basket as you leave the Sanctuary, made online, or sent to the church during the month of February. To donate online, select "Other Designated" from the drop-down menu and indicate "Huston-Tillotson" in the memo section.
