Happy Spring 2022!
Spring is finally starting to bloom and the birds are singing their beautiful tunes. As I reflect on the past year, I continue to be amazed at what our organization accomplishes. These events would not be possible without our dedicated teachers, event chairs, committee members, sponsors, underwriters, Board of Directors, and staff. We are so incredibly grateful for your commitment, diligence, perseverance, and support of our mission to serve the needs of our members and their students.

Friday Forum and
Teacher Resources
Friday Forums have been a wonderful way for CNYAMT members to get to know each other and share in the collective wisdom, expertise, and sense of humor in our community of teachers. They are scheduled on the 2nd Friday of each month throughout the school year. Feel free to contact Mary Whittington with topics you'd like to discuss. The date of the last forum for the year is scheduled for May 15th at 12-1 pm. Please join us for stimulating conversation and virtual camaraderie!

CNYAMT Music Merit Scholarship
The CNYAMT Music Merit Scholarship is being offered to high school seniors pursuing a college degree in music. No audition is required. Applications must be submitted by May 15st!
The Music Merit Scholarship forms are now available on our CNYAMT website. If you have a student who is a high school senior and is planning to major in music next year at an accredited university or college, please encourage them to apply. If they meet the following eligibility requirements and are interested in applying, they must have their applications in by May 15th.
It has been determined by the scholarship committee that the award this year will be $1000 to be divided among deserving applicants. The student must be a high school senior in good academic standing on track to graduate during the current academic year.

Students must currently be taking lessons from a CNYAMT teacher who has been a member since November 2021. The student must have participated in CNYAMT performances, events or competitions during the past three years.
- Students who have won the high school scholarship competition are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Students must be approved by their current CNYAMT teacher.
- Students must submit their scholarship application on or before the deadline date, May 15th. There is now an online application.
(The merit scholarship should not be confused with the competition scholarship for which the student must compete.)

Summer Music Camp
Many organizations are advertising music camp sessions for this summer and we are happy to be able to award tuition assistance to our students. The application deadline for tuition assistance is May 15th. The eligibility requirements are listed below and on the application at our website at cnyamt.org.
- The referring teacher must be an active CNYAMT member, participating in yearly events.
- The teacher must be the instructor of the major instrument the applicant will study at the camp.
- Students must be currently taking lessons from a CNYAMT teacher and have participated in 3 CNYAMT events (September 2021-May 2022).
- Students in kindergarten through grade 12 may apply.
- First time applicants receive priority if funds are limited.

CNYAMT Luncheon and Scores for Scholars Music Sale
Watch for your 2022 Invitation!
The annual luncheon will be held Wednesday, June 15th, 11:00 at Drumlins Country Club. It's an opportunity to enjoy a great meal, mingle with old friends, and meet some of our many, new talented members. The luncheon will be served at noon, but there will be plenty of other business to take care of beforehand.
Our President, Bernadette Kessler, will be sharing exciting news about plans for next year, as well as updates on CNYAMT’s many successes during these pandemic times.
Membership renewal forms will be available that day. Please plan to renew your membership at the luncheon. Checks can be made out to CNYAMT. The dues are $50. It makes it much easier on our membership chairperson to have it all done at once! Your dues can also be paid on our website.
The Scores for Scholars Music Sale will be held before and after the luncheon, and Raffle Baskets will be given away with proceeds to benefit our Student Scholarship Fund. To donate a basket or raffle item, please contact Barb Irwin, 458-9020 or [email protected].
Also, bring your creative ideas to drop in the new suggestion box.

Scores for Scholars Music Sale
Our annual music sale will take place at the June luncheon on Wednesday, June 15th at Drumlins Country Club. There will be time both before and after the luncheon to browse and make donations. This year, we invite our members to bring fairly new, gently used, and minimally marked books and sheet music to the luncheon for the sale. at the close of the sale, we ask that you take home and recycle any music that has not sold. All proceeds from the sale will benefit our Student Scholarship Fund.

SSMA Grant
Special thanks to Syracuse Sounds of Music Association for awarding $4,500 to CNYAMT for the Summer Music Camp Tuition Assistance Program and the Student Lesson Tuition Assistance Program.
The mission of Syracuse Sounds of Music Association is to support music in the Syracuse area by funding special projects and events that will encourage music education and performance in our community. SSMA's support enables us to make a difference in the lives of our young musicians and teachers, as well. We are forever grateful to them for the positive and lasting impact they continue to have on our music community.

CNYAMT Senior Scholarship Competition
We are very pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 CNYAMT Senior Scholarship Competition. This year’s judge was Sean O’Loughlin, principal pops conductor of Symphoria. He remarked about the excellent quality of our applicants, noting their lovely tones, excellent technique, and musical maturity.
Both winners were presented in a recital on April 3, 2022, at Park Central Presbyterian Church. We wish them much luck as they pursue their education and musical careers.

Winner of $750
Bianca Lucas, Voice
Bianca Lucas, voice, is a senior from Syracuse, attending Fayetteville-Manlius High School. She has been studying voice privately with Laura Enslin for eight years. Bianca received 2nd place in the CNYAMT Vocal Competition in 2021, and competed in the Civic Morning Musical Competition this past November. Bianca also received the Choral Award at FM in 11th grade, and plans to pursue a career in music education. Besides singing, Bianca studies flute with Dana DiGennaro and has been a member of Symphoria Youth Orchestra for 4 years. She was recently the winner of the FMHS Concerto Competition and was the 1st prize winner of the winds/brass/percussion division of the CNYAMT Instrumental Competition.

Kate O’Leary, Flute
Marcellus native Kate O’Leary is a flutist and piccoloist. Kate performs in ensembles such as All-County, Area All-State festivals, and Symphoria Young Artists Orchestra, where she is principal flute. She was recently selected at the winner of the Symphoria Youth Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, and will be a guest soloist with the orchestra, playing Mozart’s Concerto in G Major in May. She also is a member of Marcellus bands, choirs, Pit Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble, for which she has also learned saxophone and clarinet. Last year, the Society for New Music invited Kate to perform as a Rising Star at Cazenovia Counterpoint, where she had the honor of premiering Emily Graham’s Will-o’-Wisp. Kate is currently a student of Dana DiGennaro and has previously studied with Erin Tapia. She plans to study music education in college.

Baroque, Classical, and Sonatina Piano Festival
CNYAMT held the annual piano festival March 12 with 6 studios participating: Bernadette Kessler, Lynn Moroz, Tina Toglia, Ida Tilli-Trebicka, Mary Whittington, and Ya-Wei Tseng. Congratulations to the 35 students who performed for Margaret Reitz of Ithaca College and received High Honor and Honor ratings.
A very special thanks to Jo Beth Dellinger of Artist Pianos in East Syracuse for hosting the annual festival and to Lynn Moroz, Event Chair, for a very successful event.

CNYAMT Artist Pianos Advanced Piano Competition
|
The Piano Competition and the Winners Recital was held at Park Central Presbyterian Church on March 26th & 27th. A total of 10 teachers and 18 students participated in the competition with all of the winners performing at the recital.
This year's judges were Asamii Hagiwara of Onondaga Community College and Gary Fisher of Nazareth College. They both commented on the wonderful artistry and talent of our students. A very special thank you to Jo Beth Dellinger and Artists Pianos for their continued sponsorship of this wonderful event.

Competition Results
We are incredibly proud to announce the winners of the 2022 CNYAMT Instrumental Competition which took place on April 2, 2022. Four student prize winners and one honorable mention were presented in a lovely recital at Park Central Presbyterian Church on April 3rd.
