Student Spotlight - Olha Zuban
|
|
|
Olha is an international student from Ukraine. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Marketing Analytics and Insights at WSU.
Olha visited the U.S. in 2017 through the Summer Work and Travel Program and after that, she decided to come back to pursue her Master's in the country where marketing was founded.
She came to Wright State University in August 2020 during the pandemic. At that time, due to COVID-19, there were a lot of uncertainty on whether it would be possible to come to the U.S. Fortunately for her, the US embassy in her country opened back up a few days before the start of the semester, so she was able to get her student visa.
|
|
Olha is now working as the Social Media Assistant at The Wright State Guardian, student media source. Every day her team tries to deliver the latest news and updated information about life at WSU and Raider County.
Recently, Olha has started to write articles about international students, their life in the U.S. and Wright State, and all the unique difficulties and differences they notice while studying abroad. She is excited to be part of the Wright State community and to engage and contribute to the student’s culture. She loves the idea of raising awareness about woman history month and sharing all the encouraging stories which drive women to reach their best potential.
Olha says "Never doubt yourself and never shy away from any challenges you might face in the future. Give it a chance. Try your best, and eventually your dreams come true one day with a result that you have been waiting for a long time."

|
|
How can I apply for an OPT I-20 and where can I obtain it since the UCIE office is closed?
Although the campus is temporarily closed, OPT applications are still being processed daily. Please scan and email the application with department approval to fei.yu@wright.edu. After it is processed, we will mail the I-20 to you.
Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:
1. When you start a new job.
2. When you change addresses.
3. Periods of unemployment.
4. 6-month validation (You can email fei.yu@wright.edu after you update your employment information and residential address through SEVP Portal)
Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.

Conversion of Failing Grades
|
|
Recognizing the difficulties many students have faced that may have impacted their ability to perform at their best level, Wright State University is providing an automatic conversion of failing grades for undergraduate students that we hope will minimize long term damage to these students’ GPAs as a result of the continued challenges we face during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end of spring and summer 2021, all faculty will submit their course grades (A, B, C, D, F, X, or NR) by the grading deadline. After the deadline, all grades of F will be automatically converted to U. All grades of X will be automatically converted to XU. F-grades received as a result of an academic integrity violation will be converted back to an F-grade by the registrar upon consultation with the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.
Grading Deadline
Spring 2021: Noon, Wednesday, May 5
Summer 2021: Noon, Wednesday, August 4
