Continuing Education Luncheon with VanEck:
"Investing in Wide Moat Companies"
Summary: One of the keys to finding superior long-term investments is buying companies that will be able to stay one step ahead of their competitors, and it's this characteristic--think of it as the strength and sustainability of a firm's competitive advantage--that Morningstar characterizes as an economic moat. Things like patents, cost advantages, pricing power, or geographic monopolies all contribute to the moat a given firm might have. At this lunch, VanEck will discuss how to invest in US companies with long-term, sustainable competitive advantages (wide moats) at attractive valuations - with the power of Morningstar's equity analyst team.

In Remembrance of Richard Alan Sun
CFA Society Mississippi Member and Friend
Richard Alan Sun, CFA
It is with heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of one of our own. A Jackson native and beloved member of our Society for fourteen years, Richard Alan Sun passed away in his home on March 1, 2022.

To know Richard was to know a life dedicated to encouraging and supporting others. All throughout his career, Richard championed and supported early-stage startups, including investing his own money, time, and talent through his firm, Sun & Co. This passion continued into his last days as he faithfully remained a dedicated leader in growing a high-tech economy in the state of Mississippi and helping make this state a leader for the future.
