PACE TEAM
The PACE Team seeks to bring parents and community members into a closer relationship with LTYC with the goal of working together to better support our mission to benefit communities through arts programming. As an organization, we are committed to empowering youth to excel in the arts, academics, and social development. Through our programs, we seek to teach youth the fundamentals of leadership and encourage them to use their gifts and strengths to promote success and balance in their lives. We believe that our work has captured the bigger picture of what today’s youth require and what they are capable of achieving. The inaugural PACE Team will work to further these goals by engaging team members in the work we are doing, by exploring feedback and ideas generated by team members, and by providing resources and opportunities to team members to support their communities in their individual lives.
SHARING SEASON IS HERE!
Sharing Season is here and we couldn't be more excited! Each week in March and April our scholars will have access to attend virtual master classes featuring local performing and creative artists in the DMV. In addition, we will be undergoing a variety of initiatives and projects to share with our community and highlight the amazing work being done throughout our programs this academic year. Please be sure to follow us on social media @ltycarts to stay informed and to view clips from the master class segments!
FEATURED ARTIST, KELI BIRCHFIELD
Keli "Animal" Birchfield is a poet, musician, and philosopher out of Richmond, VA. She currently resides in Philly where she teaches philosophy at Saint Joseph's University, runs her nonprofit The Lawn Chair Philosophy Foundation, and of course, plays/teaches drums. She is particularly interested in studying how the rhythms of our minds meet the rhythms of our bodies to create a whole rational human worldview, and in how we come together rhythmically to occasion meaning and value within our communities.

In this workshop, participants will develop natural beats and rhythms by drumming to create music and sounds. Participants may use sticks on drums, drum pads, pots/pans, hand-to-surface or anything they have available. Open to all ages.
