No need for a New Year’s Resolution -
We are inherently driven to help each other!
As we enter 2022, we face a start much like 2021- we are still in the ebbs and flows of health and economic uncertainty. As a result, resolutions on health, diet, and exercise continue to dominate national trends. This year’s trends also include resolutions to improve personal financial situations.
‘Share the Love’ and Live a Longer, Happier Life
Last month’s ‘On Philanthropy’ column outlined the inherent drive to help one another. Now, just in time for Valentine’s Day, it’s time to dig deeper into the concepts of love and altruism and their role in our daily lives.

“Feeling the love” is a challenge for all of us these days.

AFPSEWI Job Board
At the January education session, we began with a spotlight on the vacant director of development position at America's Black Holocaust Museum. We were joined by Casey Jolly from NMBL Strategies, the firm contracted to fill the position. Afterward, Casey sat down with Amy Rowell, president-elect for AFP Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter. View their conversation here to learn more about ABHM and their search for the ideal candidate. Maybe it is YOU or someone you know!

If you represent a BIPOC led organization with a vacant development position that you would like featured, please contact Amy Rowell.

On January 20, 27 members and friends gathered via Zoom for a panel discussion with three expert advisors to learn how they are advising their clients and what their clients are thinking. Panelists included:
•  Julie Ellenbecker-Lipsky, president and senior wealth advisor at the Ellenbecker Investment Group (EIG).
•  Jan Grimm, Certified Financial Planner™ with Riverwater Partners.
•  Shelli Marquardt, president of the Waukesha County Community Foundation.

ICYMI: Member Spotlight, Sarah Malchow
Like many of my peers, fundraising was not an intentional career path. However, helping others was (and is!) an intentional choice. My first foray into the nonprofit sector was nearly 20 years ago as the elected president of a faith-based international mission and humanitarian organization.

In that role, I learned the power of storytelling as a tool to connect people to a charitable purpose—and then a fundraiser was born!
