In-Person Learning For Grades 7-12
Dear McKenzie Families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last couple of months.

We successfully welcomed back grades K-6 in the month of March. Thank you so much for your attention to safety rules. We have loved seeing their smiling faces.

We are excited to be welcoming back 7th & 8th graders next week and 9th-12th the week of April 12th.

Here is a welcome back video with what you can expect when returning to campus.

Families that choose to keep their student home will still have access to their classes through Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) as they have for the first half of the school year.

Here's what a day will look like on campus:

  • Students will attend from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., following the approved district calendar.
  • Students will attend their scheduled courses with staggered passing periods and lunch times to ensure physical distancing.
  • Students may arrive on campus as early as 7:45 a.m. in preparation for their health and safety screening.
  • Bring a warm jacket, hat and gloves because students will be eating outside in tents.
  • Families opting to drive their students should drop middle and high school-aged students in front of the covered entrance way on the front of the Old Gym leading into the high school building.
  • When traveling on the McKenzie Highway, please allow up to 45 minutes to get to school. Work is being done to remove hazardous trees from the area and may include delays on the highway.
  • Free breakfast and lunch will be available to all students, in-person or learning from home.
  • Students will be required to follow all state-mandated safety guidelines, including wearing a face-covering that covers their nose and move, stay 6-feet apart, and eating lunch with their class. Students will be able to take mask breaks 6-feet apart from other students outside.
  • If your child is riding the bus, transportation will be contacting you soon
  • Students will receive a visual screening before entering the bus.
  • Seats by the driver will be reserved for ill students and the school will be contacted.
  • Seats will be marked where students should sit
  • Drivers will assign a seat to each student
  • Students will wear face coverings while on the bus
  • Students may not eat while on the bus
  • Drivers will use windows, fans and roof vents to increase ventilation

Tree Removal Update
It may be a little shocking when you return to campus because of the large number of trees that had to be removed.

Safety is our number one priority and we worked with ODOT and the Tree Removal Task Force to make sure the campus was safe for students to return. In the coming weeks, your student will still hear crews in action in the area and we apologize for that extra noise. Most all tree removal work will be completed by Monday though trucks may be hauling logs off-site for a few more days.

Check out this video that highlights what has been happening on campus.
