Rio Rapids Alliance Q&A
Dear RRDSC Members,

As the spring season approaches, we are proud to say that the feeling among our staff, coaches, and players and parents is one of genuine excitement because of the successful fall 2020 season! We had a safe and fun return to play. Colorado Soccer Association reported that not one case of COVID-19 was attributed to organized soccer in Colorado. We will continue to implement the same safety policies and process that we used last fall for all our teams with such things as using TeamSnap to do player and coach health checks, coaches will wear masks at all times, sanitize equipment after all practices and games, and follow the Return to Play Protocol.

To continue to provide a safe environment there needs to be a collective effort with all involved including coaches, parents, players, and spectators adhering to the both RRDSC and official health guidelines and parameters and county regulations. Failing to do so could jeopardize our players, coaches, and spectator’s health, and potentially limit or even suspend the spring soccer season.

Please read Colorado Soccer Association's Return to Play Guidelines.

We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience, help, and support. Because of everyone’s efforts last fall we were able to not only provide training sessions for the players, but also Saturday games and safely host a tournament! Looking forward to seeing you out on the fields!

Fall 2020 End of the Season Surveys
We want to thank everyone involved for their hard work, commitment and flexibility that was required in order for us to have a Fall Season. Although it looked quite different with the pandemic, overall the feedback the club received was overwhelmingly positive. Parents, players and coaches alike were simply grateful for the opportunity to be outside playing soccer. The results of the Fall 2020 survey have been analyzed and reviewed by staff and the survey committee. Thank you to everyone who completed a survey or discussed your issues with a Board Member. Your feedback helps identify what worked well in the Fall as well as a few specific issues that are being addressed going into the Spring 2021 Season. As the club prepares for the upcoming season, we anticipate that the COVID-19 protocols may still be in place. We will be carefully considering roster size, coach availability, games with teams from outside the area, communication regarding last minute changes, tournament opportunities, and hosting the 2021 EIS Durango Shootout Soccer Tournament.
Again, thank you to those who completed the survey and reached out to the club. Your input is valuable and helps us continually improve.

RRDSC Player Exit Standards
In the Fall of 2014 RRDSC began using age specific Player Standards to better break down the process of player development. Player Standards are a great way to encourage players to work on their game and letting the player know what they need to learn to go to the next level. It is also meant to get the kids to understand what they have to do when they come to practice AND what they need to keep doing away from practice on their own. Youth soccer is entirely about the development of the whole player, therefore, it is the aim of RRDSC to foster player growth through age appropriate standards while gaining comprehensive tactical and technical skills required to play in all positions and facets of the game.

Youth Sports is a Journey, Not a Destination
BY JOHN O'SULLIVAN /   MONDAY, 14 SEPTEMBER 2020 /   PUBLISHED IN PARENTING
COVID. Demonstrations and riots. Divisive politics. Home schooling. Wildfires. Smoke.
As a coach for 30 years, and a parent for nearly 15 of those years, I am probably like most of you in that I cannot remember a crazier, more stressful, anxiety inducing year than 2020. It seems every time we take one step forward, we take another step backwards this year. This is especially true as we try and create opportunities for children to move and socialize safely in sports.

NO DOGS
Dogs are not allowed on any of the field venues and surrounding properties. This is part of our agreement with the City of Durango and School District 9R. If you have a dog with you at any practice, game or tournament, you will be asked to leave. The Field Marshall can take whatever action is necessary to have the dog removed from the property.
