Getting Ready to Give Back:
Miantonomi Park Reforestation
Mark your calendar - NTC will hold our 5th annual Miantonomi Park reforestation tree planting event on Friday October 27th and Saturday October 28th. Volunteers of all ages are needed to help us get 100 native trees in the ground over the span of two days. Each tree will be watered and mulched to ensure they become well-established before the coming winter. Experience is not necessary; bring your love for this North End Neighborhood park and willingness to dig in the dirt.

Volunteers can sign up on our website whether you are an individual, bringing your family, or a group of friends. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Questions or need accommodations? Email Volunteer@NewportTree.org or call 401-264-1788 for assistance.
NTC Youth Program Updates
It’s been a fun summer under the trees! This year, Program Director Rachel Holbert led weekly enrichment programs with the City of Newport and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center summer programs. Youth ranging from Kindergarten to rising 5th graders explored local park ecosystems through “bioblitz” activities. Groups connected the dots between urban trees, benefits to people (shade!), and a multitude of flora and fauna that coexist in these spaces.

Now that September is upon us, NTC is looking forward to returning to school programs. We can’t wait to share experiences from Rogers, Thompson, Pell, and East Bay Met classrooms and beyond this coming academic year! If you are an educator and would like to inquire about customized enrichment programs, request a program here!
Free Fall Tree Program is Coming Soon!
We are happy to announce that our Fall Tree Program, seeking to help our community as a whole gain more access to trees and the shade they offer, will be launching soon! Be on the lookout for more information in next month's newsletter and other outlets. You can learn more about tree equity in our community here.

One of our main goals here at the Newport Tree Conservancy is to replenish and encourage the growth and spread of our urban canopy. This fall, you have the unique opportunity to be a part of this initiative.
