Saying Goodbye

IAN SWAWELL, ELA Teacher

"After an amazing four years at ASOP, I have decided to pursue my longtime dream of living abroad. Japan still has a demand for English teachers, so I will be heading over later this year. I will be working at a series of schools teaching basic English to students of various ages, and I can't wait! While there are still details to be finalized, it looks like I'll be living up north on the island of Hokkaido. I'll miss ASOP so much and I'll be sure to send photos and updates!"

ELLEN PORTNOY

Director of Development

After 13 years with ASOP, Ellen has retired to pursue new experiences. Her son attended ASOP from 2004 to 2006. "I loved the school and the environment there." Ellen remains in Overland Park and intends to stop by and say "Hi!" on occasion.

MICHELLE REEVES

Math Teacher

Michelle is beginning a new adventure in Pennsylvania with her family after four years of teaching Math at ASOP. Michelle's husband, a Major in the U.S. Army, was recently reassigned to a new position.

Summer School Happenings

Experimenting with the technique of neurographic art in Joy's Art class.

Learning vocabulary words in Sarah's ELA class. So many words, so little time!

Sarah's Computer class recently broke out the Sphero robots, always a favorite activity. The students first learned how to connect and drive the Spheros around the classroom using the Sphero Edu app.

Liz's Environmental Science class harvested leaf lettuce from ASOP's raised garden beds. The lettuce filled two shelves in the school's refrigerator and was shared with students and staff.
