Thursday, July 6, 2023 - Finding Rest for Our Souls

From Fr. Oswald

Dear Friends in Christ,

Summer is traditionally a time to rewind, and take in a deep breath of fresh air. It is a time to unburden and take rest. The gospel reading this coming Sunday says:

  • “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Mathew 11:25-30

Those are such inspiring words for Jesus Christ. Jesus invites us to take his yoke and

learn from him. For he is gentle and humble in heart.

As you take your rest this summer, remember that the heaviest burden we carry can

be handed over to Jesus who has promised to give us true rest.

What are the heavy burdens in your life? What dead weights are you carrying around?

Jesus is ready free you from those burdens.

Have a fun-filled and restful summer,

Oswald+

Week 6: Summer Creation Care: Communicating faith and climate

12 weeks of Questions to Ponder and Act Upon

As Christians, God calls us into a journey of sacrificial, transformative discipleship in order to become more like Christ. To respond faithfully and compassionately to the suffering caused by the climate crisis is to participate in this journey. One of the most effective ways to encourage other people to care for climate is by sharing your own climate “testimony.” Communicate the values you hold as a person of faith and share how caring for our climate strengthened and helped deepen those values.

Questions to ponder and act upon:

1 Share a story of a time when you heard or experienced something surprising or captivating about caring for our climate/creation. How was it interesting to you? What changes did you make after experiencing or learning about it?

2  Share how caring for creation and climate has affected your relationship with Christ Church or your local community. In what ways were those relationships enriched? Were new connections made?

THIS SUNDAY!
