THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
Immigration Justice Task Force
Sunday, November 28 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

On Sunday, November 28th, the Immigration Justice Task Force will host a service of music, poetry, serious reflection and … more music. We’ll dig deeper into the issue of immigration, including the past and present forces causing people to flee their homelands; the hazardous journeys immigrants take to reach the U.S.; and how our story and — that of the immigrant — are often intertwined.

We’ll be joined by singers, songwriters and social justice activists Pat Humphries and Sandy Opatow, better known professionally as Emma’s Revolution. Juan Camancho will offer two extraordinary pieces from the heart of Latin America, and Benjamin Hanson will team up with Jim Hannum to bring us a new arrangement of “Welcome,” by activist, songwriter Jon Fromer. This service is guaranteed to be educational, thought-provoking, and leave you singing for justice!

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES
Rev. Sally Fritsche
Sunday, December 5 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

Join us this Sunday to reflect on how we make difficult decisions, and whether taking the road less traveled truly does make all the difference. Rev Sally will lead us in finding a new perspective on the classic Robert Frost poem, “The Road Not Taken,” and together we’ll search for clarity and boldness on the difficult choices we face in our own lives.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
OUR CARING CONGREGATION
Many of you heard the news during Sunday morning's Joys & Sorrows that Beth Simpson suffered a stroke on Saturday. She is in ICU at Carle (Rm 7117) and doing well. There is still a long road to recovery ahead of her. Rev. Sally was able to visit her today & shared this link for folks to sign up to help support Beth in her recovery. There is also a Caring Bridge page for her where you can leave messages of support.
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, November 21, 2021.

From Lara Breeze-Troyer: Joy for this congregation and other safe places that provide an open and welcoming space for the non-binary in our church and our community. Sorrow that not everywhere is YET a safe space.

From Jerry Carden: Sorrow for all the transgender folks who have lost their lives due to violence or suicide in the past year. Thank you Rev Sally and Nicole Frydman from Uniting Pride for a beautiful candlelight vigil last evening on the church lawn.

From Joe & Pat DeWalt: Our beloved dog, Annie passed away in our home on Thursday afternoon. She had an enormous personality and a great enthusiasm for life that filled our home for 11 of her 13 years. We will miss her greatly.

From Wendy Graves: Joy for our grandson Axel’s 5th birthday today and the wonderful job his parents do co-parenting.

From Andrea Herzog: We are grateful for this church and our community that has helped our non-binary kiddo find what’s true for them and feel loved and supported for who they are. May they and many others continue to find that acceptance and support out in the world.

From Gail Hueting: The sound is back for me on YouTube! For some time I couldn’t hear the service -- now I can.

From Jenny Hunt: Had the opportunity on our trip to visit with 2 cousins on the east coast that I have not seen in a very long time. Sharing of family stories and catching up on lives. What a tremendous gift!

From Paul Kaiser: Please send strength to Beth Simpson who suffered a stroke some time Saturday and is now in Carle ICU. She will need to do a bit of work to regain use of her right side and speech.

From Julie Laut: Joyous congratulations to my daughter, Celia Barbieri, for an outstanding senior year cross country season. Celia not only made it to State and was awarded her team's Most Valuable Player, but as a result of her academic excellence, she was recognized with two State-wide scholar-athlete honors.

From Joe Omo-Osagie: Janice Mitchell impacted Champaign and Urbana youth through her work as a community organizer and social worker. She worked tirelessly at Cunningham Children’s Home and the Urbana School District and 11 years ago started the Urbana Neighborhood Connection Center to provide after school and enrichment activities to young people in the area. Her physical absence will be felt but her spirit will live on forever more. Donate to this organization as they will possibly struggle as their founding light has been dimmed.

From Cameron & Michelle Pitcel: Prayers for our nephew who is quarantined for Covid exposure at daycare.

From Umeeta Sadarangani: Joy and gratitude for this beautiful service and for this welcoming church that embraces all the ways we are ourselves.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.organy time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

During the month of November our Shared Offering recipient is the MAIA Impact School in Solola, Guatemala. Guatemala is a country with one of the worst gender equity gaps in the Americas. Nowhere is this more apparent than with young indigenous girls, who are essentially an afterthought in society. MAIA Impact School is one of a kind in Central America.

Through a program of rigorous academics, mentorship, socio-emotional support and family engagement, MAIA focuses on maximizing the potential of indigenous girls, nourishing and connecting their talents with 21st century opportunities. Supporting the MAIA Impact School helps address the systemic causes of mass migration and unleashes the untapped leadership potential of young Guatemalan women. Empowered women, with the knowledge and resources to live choice-filled lives, can lead their families and communities out of poverty
