Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,

How many times have you held it together through the tough days of work, only to get sick as soon as you go on vacation?
Argh. It happens too often, to too many of us.

So, this year, when vacation is more than necessary, we are determined to keep it together, to forestall any sniffles and to make the most of our down time.
Time off matters. Letting your mind rest, matters; letting it wander off and meander into daydreaming, matters. It’s how we recharge.

So, The Blue Purl will be closed for two weeks, July 26 to August 9. The plan is to reboot our human operating system, to think hard about who we are, who we want to be and where we are going – as individuals and as a small, community-based, family-friendly business.

And when we come back, there will be a whole new array of classes and products for you to explore.

But while we are away and the shop is closed, we will have the chance to really think about our craft, what it means to us and how we can continue to help you grow, to help you become the artisan – and the person – you aspire to be.
There is so much to knitting, like gardening, or cooking, that is a stand-in for the more profound and complicated aspects of our lives. You must bring your whole self to every project, touch, sight, hearing, smell and, maybe even, taste - nah. You must begin, always, with intention.

You need to stop, think, plan a course of action, and then execute, to bring the object into existence.

Have you ever tried yoga? Well, there are lots of ways to practice yoga. Lots of schools, forms and approaches. But at the end of the day, it is a very personal practice where you run your own race and don’t worry about the person in front of you, or behind you. Each move, accompanied by a breath, is a step towards your own individual growth, regardless of how expertly you can hold a pose.
Our handcrafts are the same. Some of us can whip out super complicated, intricate patterns. Some are just beginning.

But with each stitch we all improve, we all bring an abstract idea into reality. With each stitch we take a step closer to creating a new, beautiful object – and to being the person we aspire to be. That’s not an overstatement, but a fact because the mind-body connection is so powerful.

That is why vacation, matters. Rest, matters. Downtime matters. Give it a rest. Let yourself breathe. Think about who you want to be and what it takes to get there. Then come back, refreshed and visit us. We will have taken then same summer journey and will look to make our way forward, in the fall, side by side, with you.

See you August 10.

What's New?
In case you missed the IG, our Sandnes Garn Line (not to be confused with their yarn Line - pronounce leen-ya) has expanded recently to include Double Sunday - a DK weight yarn - in colors chosen by PetiteKnit, the designer herself.

Here're some project ideas. and color combos to consider. In our Ravelry Bundle.

This yarn is available online or in the store.
PomPom Preorder
The latest PomPom Magazine is available for preorder.....

"PPQ38! Our Autumn 2021 collection celebrates roots, branches, and everything between! 🌳 You can look forward to luscious cable patterns which mimic labyrinths of roots and statuesque boughs, clever colourwork and textures designed to imitate oft-overlooked plantlife, and patterns which reference the enchanted forests of fairy tales."
Because it's always 'Sweata Weatha'...
Isabell's NEW Diggory Venn
Top sweater on Ravelry is Diggory Venn which is not to be confused with Dingley Dell (in fingering, and looks nothing alike.) Ok, maybe YOU weren't confused but we were for a split second, admittedly. Ah, please excuse the digression but who wouldn't want that clever, cute pocket with just a touch of colorwork detail?

We would love one or two or three in Peace Fleece, Scout, Arranmore Light, Jill Draper's Kingston or brand new-to-us Squish DK or Craggy Tweed (any day now).
Where is Anjali?
Anjali, one of our talented local (that's the hint!) designers, models her just released Pluma Rosa available on Ravelry. She used fingering weight in the body of the pullover with mohair held double in the yoke and cuffs for the colorwork. Not so bold prediction: One of this fall's MUST haves.

AND... look below at Tam's test knit WIP for this sweater in Farmer's Daughter Squish Fingering - BECAUSE - we are waiting in great anticipation... drumrollllllll....
FARMER'S DAUGHTER IN THIS WEEK!
We'll be watching the door (fingers crossed) waiting for our first shipment of Farmer's Daughter in Juicy DK, Craggy Tweed (DK), Squish Fingering, Mighty Mo... We will IG/FB when it arrives! Follow us @thebluepurl. We know it's a little FOMO but we're excited!!!!! Look at all the exclamation points!!
For cool evenings at the beach...
Consider Raglan Sweater for one of the littles in your life, it's a free Sandnes Garn pattern. This will work up nicely in suggested  Sandnes Garn Line for now or in Double SundayUltra Wool DK, or Sublime for chillier fall and winter temps. Never too early to think about those holiday gifts...
It's time for Casapinka Mystery KAL
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

  • The name of the Mystery KAL is  The Snark-o-meter. Starring Sharon From Security, Fin from Interpol, with special appearances by Jean from I.T. and Kit Kat.

  • Begins August 14 - There are 6 Clues over a 6 week span.

  • Yarn requirements: 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn. A couple of variegated skeins is just fine, and all four as speckles are fine. Fades look great as well but will switch order.

  • Knit on US 6 needles.

  • Shape: Basic rectangle - but wider than last year's design.

  • Level: Intermediate beginner. First timers should definitely attempt and as always there are "easy" sections for an option if needed.

We put together some skeins from our latest beauties :) But come in and have fun and we'll give you a hand as needed! Or look at our fingering yarn online.
