Thank you everyone for joining our spring share! Read the blog above to learn about what's been going on at the farm. Oh, and somehow I forgot to put in there that we got our organic certification last Friday! More on that in another update, but it's official.

Here are important details:

Location: Holliston Community Farm
Time: 1:00pm-6:00pm
Date: Tuesday May 4th (and the next four Tuesdays after)
Address: 34 Rogers Rd, Holliston, MA

Park either on the wood chips at the top of the long driveway (drive slow) or along the street and walk up.

Masks: I know the CDC is relaxing COVID restrictions, but I'd appreciate it if everyone wears a mask for the time being while picking up their shares.

How to pick up your share:

Come to the wagon, let the stand manager know you are here (VERY IMPORTANT! If we don't know you've come we might start to panic that we don't have enough vegetables for you at the end of distribution - we need to cross your name off the list!).

Use a little hand sanitizer and walk around the wagon, reading the signs to pick up your produce. Feel free to ask any questions of the stand manager. Our spring share has little choice or trade options since there are so few veggies available at this time of year, but if you really need to we can try to accommodate a trade, just ask.

Please call if you are going to be late: 508-215-8378

What to Do If . . . .

Can't make it (planned):Please email kevin@upswingfarm.com to chose another pick up day OR SEND A FRIEND! We love when CSA members send friends or neighbors to pick up their share, it also makes a great gift! Just let them know the procedures! (Save this email to forward)

Can't make it (last minute emergency): Please text or call the farm phone 508-215-8378 (NEW NUMBER - GOOGLE made our life really hard last fall/winter and we ended up needing a new number)

Running Late: Please text or call the farm phone 508-215-8378. We can leave a share for you to pick up or coordinate a meeting place to get you your share.

Missing a Week: No need to tell us if you plan to send someone in your place (which we encourage). If you don't plan to pick up your share, email kevin@upswingfarm.com and we will make sure your share makes it to the Holliston Food Pantry or Project Just Because in Hopkinton (or another area food pantry).

So What's in the Share?

Spinach: this very large leaf spinach is great in any recipe for cooked spinach, or just lightly steamed or sautéed with a little garlic. We had it with onions and pinto beans in tacos the other night and it was delicious.

Mini Bib Lettuce: These crispy little lettuces are great in salads or sandwiches!

Cilantro: We are very happy to have cilantro this early. We planted about 10 seeds/cell in a large, 50 cell tray and transplanted very close together. It's a lot of work, but totally worth it!

Arugula: Delicious in salad - or wilted in rice or pasta.

Bok Choy: Crunchy and delicious, it is great stir fried or chopped into salad!

It's a smaller share to start - but next week we have a fun surprise for you - overwintered carrots! Plus LOTS more greens.

RECIPES

Did you know that arugula is actually a cruciferous vegetable? Cruciferous veggies (think broccoli and brussels sprouts) are linked with lower rates of cancer and heart disease and are packed with vitamins and minerals. This salad just screams SPRING to me!

Perfect for a Mother's Day Brunch - this gorgeous salad has it all, crunchy nuts, crisp lettuce, creamy goat cheese and a zingy honey-mustard salad dressing to bring it all together.

A vegetarian taco that you'll want to make again and again.

Whenever I see bok choy my first thought is usually a stir-fry but I came across this recipe and it looks ridiculously good with ginger, lime and cilantro.

Sincerely,

Brittany and the Upswing Farm Team
