U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will join Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn and others in South Carolina to announce that the Biden-Harris Administration has awarded more than $2.2 billion from the RAISE discretionary grant program to 162 different infrastructure projects across the country. Today’s funding includes a nearly $23 million grant to build a pedestrian bridge and a multi-modal transit hub to better connect neighborhoods and college campuses to downtown Orangeburg, South Carolina.

The RAISE grant program, expanded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, supports communities of all sizes, with half of the FY2023 funding going to rural areas and the other half to urban areas. The grants are part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda that is growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out—from rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, to driving nearly $500 billion in private sector manufacturing and clean energy investments in the United States, to creating good-paying jobs and building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.

"Using the funds in President Biden’s infrastructure law, we are helping communities in every state across the country realize their visions for new infrastructure projects,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “This round of RAISE grants is helping create a new generation of good-paying jobs in rural and urban communities alike, with projects whose benefits will include improving safety, fighting climate change, advancing equity, strengthening our supply chain, and more.”

Dallas Area Rapid Transit to Upgrade Bus Fleet with $103M Grant

communityimpact.com

Dallas Area Rapid Transit is set to eventually have a fleet of more environmentally friendly buses hitting the streets of North Texas.

With the help of a $103 million Federal Transit Administration grant, which was made possible by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, DART will begin to “modernize” its bus fleet with low- and no-emission vehicles.

“Because of our rapid growth, we need investments to bolster our local infrastructure and create more options for Texans to get where they need to go,” said U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas, who signed a letter of support to the FTA for the grant, in a news release.

Data For Environmentally Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Mobility

enotrans.org

Data on passenger movements, vehicle fleets, fare payments, and transportation infrastructure has immense potential to inform cities to better plan, regulate, and enforce their urban mobility systems. This report specifically examines the opportunities that exist for U.S. cities to use mobility data—made available through adoption of new mobility services and data-based technologies—to improve transportation’s environmental sustainability, accessibility, and equity.

Cities are advancing transportation sustainability in several ways, including making trips more efficient, minimizing the use of single-occupancy vehicles, prioritizing sustainable modes of transport, and enabling a transition to zero and low-emission fuels. They are improving accessibility and equity by planning for and offering a range of transportation services that serve all people, irrespective of their physical abilities, economic power, and geographic location.

Q&A: One Year In, Trinity Metro CEO Wants to Change the Narrative Around Transit in Tarrant County

fortworthreport.org

Just one year into his new role as head of Trinity Metro, Rich Andreski reflects on what he and his team have accomplished over the last 12 months and what’s next for the transportation agency of one of the fastest-growing cities in the country

This interview has been edited for clarity, grammar and length.

Sandra Sadek: Congrats on completing your first year as CEO of Trinity Metro. What are some wins or accomplishments you’re proud of?

Rich Andreski: If I had to pick one accomplishment, I feel like over the last year, we’ve really done an extraordinary job reconnecting with our stakeholders, our customers, our private sector partners and nonprofits. We’ve really gone out and been listening to what people want and need from us. So I would say that is one of the things I’m most proud of.

Then focusing on building ridership, and we’ve done a lot around that. It’s about providing great, high-quality transit service. So we’ve identified a whole range of investments near-term, not five or 10 years away, but this year we’re working to improve the customer experience.
