January 8th Presentation:
Tamara Navama

Tamara Navama is an interdisciplinary artist, making one-of-a-kind metalwork, designing production jewelry and creating handmade leather products. Her jewelry combines precious metals, exotic skins & imitations of exotic skins. She is bringing awareness to the complexities of how our culture relates to leather. She utilizes traditional handwork techniques alongside contemporary digital technologies. In her talk, she will share how she is using different techniques and technologies to represent her perception about exotic skins and craft. She will present her process and demonstrate basic resin casting.

Navama is orginally from Israel, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Metalwork from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Following her move to the United States, she executed custom designs for a luxury leather goods store in Fort Worth. She is currently in the fifth semester of her master's degree in the area of Metalsmithing and Jewelry at the University of North Texas.

Rose Parade - Up Close and Personal

VAST member, Olivia Walker, her husband Charlie and their grandchildren, Drake and Creed Womack had a once in a lifetime experience over the holidays.  They participated in the rose preparation for the Sierra Madre float, I Think I Can, as part of the Imagination and Joy section of the Inspiring Stories themed parade. The Walkers are members of the Fantasy RV Tours group, which cut and prepared 20,000 roses for the float. This particular float was created completely by volunteers and donations. Sierra Madre has been in the Rose Parade since 1917.

Origin of the Universe by Bonnie Siebert; January 9-April 10

Bonnie Siebert is exhibiting a series of work called Origin of the Universe, a five part representation of different aspects of a woman's influence in the world. The swaying, swinging skirts and overflowing hats contain all the elements that continue to mystify man and woman herself as she strives to utilize the variousness of her powers and unite them in the eternal feminine; an identity of strength, liberation and love.

Siebert studied art at the University of Texas and has continued to study with private instructors in Texas and Mexico. She has exhibited paintings in Germany and the United States, and is currently exhibiting in several Texas galleries. Inspired by the Fauves and the Impressionists, Bonnie has developed her own style of Impressionism.

Illustration Opportunity

Proposed by Beth Honeycutt

I am co-authoring a book of speculative fiction and wonder if there are artists interested in sketching a few images from different segments. We are after 5-7 black and white sketches sized 11x14 or similar artist's portfolio size. We are looking for someone interested in creating images and would credit the artist in the book for the sketches provided. We have no current resources, though depending on the outcome of the book, we would be willing to make an appropriate payment to that artist in the future.

We are tossing the net out to see if any VAST artists might be intrigued with a project like this. To see a sample storyline, check out the indiegogo campaign of The V-Path at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-v-path-one-story-away-from-a-new-reality/x/9287350  or email me at windword@verizon.net or by cell (Beth Honeycutt) at (940) 594-2165.

VADO is a day where members may come paint at the CVA from 9:15am - 3pm, approximately two mornings a month.  There is no instructor, it is not a workshop...just an art gathering.

You may paint, sketch, quilt or what ever creative endeavor you desire in the fellowship with your artist friends.  Lunch and fellowship are the best parts!

The cost is $10 a year, or $1 a session if you just want to drop in every now and then.  Pay with your dues, or you can send $10 to:
