SSP Volunteer News
Dear Sail Sand Point Community,

We are now in the heart of summer and have seen a massive influx of interest from new and seasoned volunteers, it is very much appreciated! We are excited to announce our upcoming Volunteer Launch Gathering and Work Day, updates to the Better Impact site, and some new volunteer openings.

The Volunteer Launch Gathering and Work Day is Friday, August 20th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm. To attend you must RSVP through our Volunteer Launch Gathering RSVP form by Wednesday, 8/18 at noon.

On the day we'll break into groups and you should expect tasks that involve cleaning up the site, maintaining our planters, boat cleaning, light painting, etc. We will also be taking a tour of some of our boats that require Boat Stewards: such as the j24, SB3's, 2.4M and the Pearson Ensign. August may be another hot month, so we urge you all to bring sunscreen, water, proper footwear, and protective clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Also, our SSP Participant Code of Conduct has been updated: If you are working with a volunteer group that includes kids who are 18 and under (aka seniors in high school and under) we ask that you wear your mask. If your group does not include those 18 and under we welcome fully vaccinated individuals to decide whether or not to wear a mask in our outdoor spaces. After the work is done we'll provide food for those interested, the grill will be hot and ready with a masked staff/volunteer at the helm!

Sail Sand Point encourages you to join Better Impact, this is where we list all of our volunteer opportunities and where you will log volunteer hours. All SSP volunteers receive one hour of Open Boating rental time for every three hours of volunteer service! We appreciate your eagerness to volunteer with us and look forward to seeing you soon.

Calling All:

Outboard Motor Mechanics

We are looking for someone to assist (as needed) in evaluating our outboard motors along with updating the maintenance log and assisting with any problems that may surface. If you have the skill set, please reach out to volunteer@sailsandpoint.org. When reaching out, please include your experience and what types of outboards you have previously worked on.

Experienced Carpenters

We are also seeking a volunteer with experience in carpentry. This volunteer would help design boatyard racks, purchase lumber and co-lead our upcoming volunteer building day in September: date TBD. If you are interested, contact volunteer@sailsandpoint.org for further details!

Sincerely,

Seth Muir
