President's Message:
Dear Members,
Happy New Year to all of you!!! I hope everyone celebrated the start of 2016 in good spirits/health with family and friends. Now that we're a couple of weeks into the New Year, it's good to look ahead and think about what we need to accomplish as a team.
Being President for 11 short months is a difficult task and the need to establish achievable goals is critical to the success of the organization this year and for years to come. It's important for us to use our time wisely and move forward as decisively and swiftly as we can in 2016.
Repositioning is progressing slowly with the transitions of Chapters and Sections. Of course, there's still a lot of work ahead. While important to the future of our organization the transformation will be slow and we will need to learn to be patient as the "Requirements" evolve.
The following are the 2016 Goals for the organization.
Goal 1: Communicate/validate our value to the membership
Why: A majority of members question the "Value" of their membership.
Goal 2: Increase our membership
Why: Michigan is one of 8 large States in the United States. This enables us to have a major voice at the National level and in control of our future. We MUST increase our membership by approximately 1.9% (1800 to 1900) to maintain this elite status.
Goal 3: Teamwork between Chapter/ Section / State
Why: Boards need to act on behalf of members. Sharing ideas, resources, events to reduce overall cost.
Goal 4: Initial discussion with State Licensing Board to protect the Profession
Why: Protect our professions future.
The year ahead will bring its own challenges but I'm sure by working together, keeping focused on our priorities and putting our members first we can realize our ambitions. These will certainly continue to be my priorities and I am convinced I can count on you to do the same.
Thank You!
Mike Neville, AIA
