New Development Application:
City Council Public Hearing February 16th
|
|
A PD is a specific kind of development that allows for integrating different kinds of land uses. In this case, the applicant is proposing using mixed housing types with recreational amenities. Additionally, with PD applications, applicants can request that certain code requirements be waived in order to provide outstanding design elements while still meeting the intent of the code.
Planning Commissioners raised questions about several elements of the proposal, including multi-family housing, lot sizes, and setback requirements. After reviewing the proposal, the Commission recommended that the City Council decide whether to approve the application after full consideration of a number of the Planning Commission’s concerns and recommendations (click here to access their meeting minutes).
The Sandy City Council will consider whether to approve or deny the PD application at its meeting on February 16th at 7:00 pm. Meeting details and Zoom information are available here. We encourage you to attend the meeting to learn more about the proposal and share your views.

ADA Ramp Improvements Project
Approaches Completion
|
|
This project replaced non-compliant wheelchair ramps constructed in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with new ramps meeting current ADA standards. D&D Concrete and Utilities managed to find enough dry days in December and January to pour concrete for 30 new ramps at intersections south of Hwy 26, east of Meinig Ave. west of Langensand Rd. and north of Gary St.
Work was completed in the red area shown on the map, followed by the blue and yellow areas. There are still some minor cleanup and punchlist items remaining that will be completed in the next couple of weeks.

Proposed Changes to Municipal Code
Regarding Sewer and Water Systems
|
|
The proposed changes would update and clarify the types of permitted discharges to the sewer system and allow public works staff to inspect and approve connections to public sewer laterals to prevent inflow and infiltration and cross connections with the storm drain system. Preventing inflow and infiltration is a key strategy in our Wastewater System Improvement Project to reduce the volume of water to be treated and discharged from the wastewater plant. The changes would update or eliminate archaic and redundant references and ensure the code reflects current practices and procedures. In addition, a new section regarding inflow and infiltration is proposed to be added as Chapter 13.14.
In addition, city staff is recommending updates to the code sections regarding the water system, streamlining procedures, eliminating or modernizing outdated references (e.g. water furnished for "motor power... steam whistles and boilers") and aligning the language in the code with current practices.
To review the proposed changes in detail, please see the recent news post on our website. Proposed deletions, and changes are in red. All other portions of Title 13 would remain unchanged.
The City Council will consider these changes during the work session portion of their February 1st meeting. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

Would you like to let our local teachers know how much they are appreciated?
Just in time for Valentines Day, make a heart using one of the following ideas and drop it off at the Sandy Library by February 14th. Baskets of the hearts will be delivered to each school in the Oregon Trail School District the following day.
Make sure your hearts are not addressed to specific teachers as they will be delivered at random.
