CHAMBER UPDATES | AUGUST 31, 2023
|
|
Chamber Leaders-
Do you remember the song, "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire? It was an upbeat song and referenced the night of September 21st which this month would have been our Third Thursday event at Playground Equipment Services. That event has been moved back one week to September 28th...be sure to see that date change in amongst all of the information included in this month's newsletter. Yes, there are two SPECIAL spelling errors included in this message (the same sentence) and if you email me those errors, you will be entered into a special drawing at the end of the month.
September signified going back to school for me; generally, in Chicago we didn't go back until after the Labor Day weekend. Schools are in full swing and one thing I wanted to point out is that we, as business professionals, need to find ways to help our young people today. This is an obligation that often gets overlooked in communities, but can be invaluable to you, the youth that are served, and the Colerain community as a whole. Last month so many of you supported the NWLSD Health & Safety Fair at Northgate Mall. That event served over 900+ students, the largest number they've had in over 20 years. In the newsletter below, we have posted an opportunity to help partner with NWLSD and its students in a variety of ways including internships, job shadowing, and lunch/learn experiences. If you or your staff are interested in helping with an after-school program (tutoring or otherwise), certainly those opportunities abound as well.
In my newsletter last month, I spoke about working ON your business as compared with working IN your business. As we enter the final months of 2023, be sure to take pause and look at how you can make strategic changes that will impact your business in 2024. If you have never created a budget, look at doing so or finding someone to help. If you haven't planned for your taxes in the past, look to one of the accounting firms associated with the chamber to assist you. If you haven't created that Human Resources manual or put H/R procedures in place but know that you should, there is no time like the present to do so, and the Chamber has resources to help.
Finally, you will continue to see us promote the Live2Lead program through the John C. Maxwell organization. This event will be held at Mercy West Hospital on October 24th (see information below) and will bring together the area's finest leaders for you to learn from. While there is a time and financial investment of four hours and $99, we all should be investing in our business, our staff and ourselves, right? One of our chamber members recently closed their business for a full-day staff retreat where they vision-casted and had team building activities. This kind of investment pays dividends for years to come. Please take the time to register for Live2 Lead, if not only for yourself, but also for those leaders that you greatly value.
As always, please know that I am a resource that is hear to help you and we look forward to helping you're business every day! Three September events to highlight among all of the ones listed below.
-
Team Up to Green Up is celebrating two years with a picnic on September 6th; stop by for a free lunch on us. Registration is required so that we can plan accordingly.
-
Please support our Fire/Police by registering and attending our appreciation breakfast on September 15th. It's only $10 and an opportunity to say THANK YOU to those first responders in our community.
-

Enjoy your Labor Day holiday and the end of summer gorgeous weather!

COLERAIN HIGH SCHOOL'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
|
|
Colerain High School will be celebrating its 100th anniversary during the 2023 – 2024 school year. Since its first class in 1925, more than 32,000 students have graduated from Colerain. The Class of 2024 will be the 100th graduating class.
The Colerain Boosters and Alumni Association have formed a committee to plan events throughout the coming year that highlight the rich history of the school. From academics to performing arts to athletics, Colerain’s students have excelled and brought notoriety to the school and community over the years. Alumni have used their education in many ways as they entered the workforce, served in the military or continued their education in college. Regardless of the path chosen, the common thread for each graduate was the solid foundation and support provided by their dedicated teachers, counselors, coaches and administrators.
To bring attention to this milestone in the community, the committee is working with Colerain Township to produce banners that will be displayed on the light posts at the intersection of Colerain Avenue and Springdale Road. The banners will highlight academic, performing arts, athletic and career accomplishments of Colerain students and alumni. The Boosters are soliciting local businesses to assist with the cost of the banners and to become a partner in celebrating the school’s centennial graduating class.
Listed below are examples of the events that will be held:
Athletic Hall of Fame Induction - Friday, September 1
Distinguished Graduate Recognition - Friday, September 15
Cornerstone 100th Anniversary Commemoration - Sunday, October 1
Open House - Thursday, April 19, 2024
